Ancients of the Past

Part 1

"Alert, alert, this is not a drill.  All security personal to their stations.  Base security has been compromised," the announcement said over the loudspeaker.  The corridors were bathed in a red light as military personal raced around to set up defensive positions to keep the attackers away from the Stargate.  Each of them would give up with lives to allow as many people as possible to escape the planet.

The warriors lined up in the corridors and waited behind makeshift barricades with their weapons aimed in the direction that the enemy would come from.  Silence hung in the air as thick as the anticipation as they waited.  A few soldiers readjusted their grip on their weapons as they waited for the inevitable to happen.

A clink echoed sharply off the walls just moments before the explosion leaving no reaction time for the soldiers.  The result was smoke and shrapnel sent thought out the corridor as soldiers fell to the first attack.

Through the smoke laser fire could be seen as the defenders returned fire.  Small sparks could be seen where the laser fire hit the wall leaving scorch marks on the walls and floor.  More defenders fell to the laser fire as the attackers began to break through the first defenses.

At the gate room the last chevron engaged and the startgate activated with the whoosh of the established wormhole.  Rumbles of explosions could be felt and heard by everyone in the room.  The young children began to cling a bit tighter to their parents and few began to cry.  It added to the already growing sense of panic that was rapidly spreading through the room.

"Everyone calm down," a calm commanding voice said over the intercom.  Everyone looked over to where they could see a large man with white hair standing in the control room.  He looked at the group then continued.  "Proceed in an orderly fashion through the gate and everything will be all right.  Supplies and personnel will be waiting for you on the other side, good luck."

The level of panic had dropped in the room as people began to rush through the gate but in an orderly fashion as there was no pushing.  A blast wall came down covering the control center and the gate room as the door to the gat room opened and the commander walked in.  He made his way over to where two men were standing and three women.

"Father, what do you think," the man leaning against the wall asked.

Before the man could reply another young man came walking up to him.  "Commander Zeus, they've broken through level three and are headed to level two," he said anxiously.

Zeus looked at the man and then at his family.  There was much more that he wanted to say, and do, but he realized what he had to do.  It was a quick realization but one that once he made there was peace in his heart.

"My family," he said to the group in front of him.  His twin sons, Ares and Apollo both of who were tall and muscular.  Ares had dark hair and a thin beard while Apollo had blonde hair and could not grow a beard.  He looked at his two daughters, his youngest was Aphrodite, a blonde vixen who caught the eye of just about everyone, and of which her brothers were extremely protective.  Then there was his other daughter, Artemis, and her friend Athena.  Artemis was more like her brother Ares, tall and muscular with brown hair.  Athena was a family friend who Zeus considered one of his own.  She kept Artemis in line for which he was grateful.

"Father," Artemis asked seeing a look in his face and knowing what was going on.  He could recognize the tone his oldest daughter's voice and knew that she knew what was going to happen.

"You must be strong, I will not be going with you," Zeus said.  "Artemis, take care you your sister for me."

"I will," she said as tears began to pool in her eyes.

"Aphrodite," he said as he opened his arms to give his crying daughter a last hug.

"I'll miss you," she said as her five foot frame was completely enveloped by his strong arms.  "Now listen to your brothers, they are only looking out for you" he told her before she finally turned to head to the gate.

Artemis and Athena glanced at Zeus as he gave them both a hug.  His oldest daughter was not much for words and knew that his would do.  "Take care my daughters," he told them.  Artemis gave her father a kiss on the cheek before heading back to the gate where her sister was waiting.

Athena waited for a second.  Zeus was like the father she had never known.  She leaned in and whispered something in his ear.

"I know," Zeus said as he heard the words.  "Go," he told her then turned his attention to his sons.

"Father, we'll stay with you," Apollo said.

"All you have to do is ask and we will join you," Ares said pushing off from the wall.

"No my sons," Zeus said proud, yet sorrowful at the same time.  "They will need you not more than ever.  You two have made me proud, listen to each other and we'll survive."

"By your will father," Apollo said grasping his father's hand which turned into a hug then he too walked to the end of the line.

"You must go Ares," Zeus said noting that his son was gripping his pistol.  "Apollo will need you."

Ares thought about it for a second as another rumble came through the walls.  "Very well father, good luck," he finally said before giving his father a hug.

"Seal the door, no one goes past this point while one of us is breathing," Zeus said.  He turned to look back into the gate room as the doors closed.  He could see his family looking back at him as the doors closed with a clank and the locking mechanisms made sure it was locked.

"All right boys," Zeus said picking up a weapon and hefting it with his hand.  "Let's show these mindless cans what warriors can do."

A small cheer rose from the group as they waited.  The sound of battle came closer and they all tensed for the upcoming battle.  A few warriors came around the corner and fired off a few shots before they fell at the corner.  Everyone raised their weapons and aimed.  This was the last stand.

A large metallic robot came around the corner.  It was dressing in grey armor with a black head with one large red eye that bounced from one side to the other.  It quickly fired off a couple of shots as one warrior fell.

Zeus fired and watched as sparks flew from the robot and it fell dead but was replaced by two more.  They continued to fire holding on with a fierceness that these robots could not understand.

A sharp pain tore through Zeus' consciousness as he glanced down.  There was a crimson stain slowly spreading across his chest.  Glancing back up he noticed that most of his warriors had now fallen.  With effort he raised his weapon and destroyed another attacker.  His shoulder was hit but he was beyond caring now.  He would soon join his wife Hera.

Another shot and he felt his strength fail him as he crashed to the ground.  He knew that his death was imminent but a sound pierced his last moments alive.  The gate was shutting down; they would not be able to follow.  A smile crossed his face as his chest stilled and the weapon he had been holding was released.  His family was safe.

A metallic gold robot entered the corridor even through smoke still filled the air.  It walked up to the nearest black robot and waited for only a second.

"Report centurion," the gold robot said.

"The last defenses have fallen," the centurion reported.

"Excellent, anything else," the gold robot asked.

"The gate deactivated just as we got here," the centurion said.

"Find out where they went, then it will be humankind's last stand," the gold robot said.  "Inform the Imperious Leader that the planet is ours."

"By your command."

Doctor Erin Hill wiped the sweat away from her forehead as she peered around her small camp.  She only had a few more weeks until her agreement with the local government was over.  That was the one thing that worried her more than anything.  The government was prone to letting local people handle what was going on and she was not sure that the locals wanted her there.

Her train of thought was cut off by the excited sound of one of her workers.  He was talking so fast that she was not able to keep up with the man's ramblings.  She could only discern metal, and unusual and come look.  With a sigh Erin pushed a lock of her blonde hair out of her face which the wind whipped right back and headed over to where the group was chatting excitedly about something.

She stopped at what she saw.  There at the bottom of the excavation was metal, the likes of which she had never seen before.  She quickly climbed down and placed her hand on it.  The metal was definitely manufactured in some way by the smooth polished feel it had.

Erin was about to race to her tent to radio this in when she realized something.  They had not found the edges of this piece of metal.  Looking at the ground she realized that it was probably quite big and that they would need special equipment to figure out how big it was.

Erin realized that this was a find that could finally put her in the big leagues with archeologists.  This type of discovery was something everyone only dreamed about.  A large mystery that no one understood at all.  She figured that it would probably take her the rest of her life to figure out what this was.

With a quick command to the crew to begin seeing if they could find the edge of the sheet of metal she quickly walked back to her tent to find her radio to talk with the university and see who else she might be able to get involved.

"Chevron six engaged," the voice said over the intercom.

The large gate swiveled again as the next chevron rotated into place and locked.  There was the whooshing noise that accompanied an established gateway to a new world was opened.  Standing in front of the gate stood three men and one woman waiting to begin their mission.  One held a staff type weapon while the other three had more typical earth style weapons.  These were the most advanced on the planet Earth.

"SG-1, your mission is a go, and good luck," General Jack O’Neill said over the intercom.  He would have loved to head to the other planet with the team but today he was scheduled with a meeting with the President and Thor.

"Thank you sir," Samantha Carter said as she led the team through the gate.  For the short term Jonas Quid had been brought back on a temporary basis until a new member of SG-1 could be found.  Everyone worked well with Jonas so there was not much friction in the group.

Jack turned and walked back to his desk to await the upcoming meeting.  He really did not know what was going on right now with Thor's race.  They had not been around lately but the last he heard was that they were winning the war against the replicators.  He could only hope that nothing new had developed in the past month.

A flash of light and the general was no longer in his office but no one was concerned.  The flash meant that Thor had picked him up and transported him to the meeting place.

Daniel Jackson walked through the gate and was amazed at what he saw in front of him.  He was expecting to see a civilization but not the ruins that he saw in front of him.  They were supposed to have been met by their contact to the local government but this looked like there had been a war.

"All right, spread out and keep an eye out for anything that might be dangerous," Sam said to the rest of the group.

Daniel and Jonas each gripped their weapons a bit tighter as Teal'c glanced around looking for something that might attack at any moment.

The amount of destruction was amazing to all four.  They had just talked with the people here a week ago and were coming to begin negotiations with the people here.  They were a technologically advanced race with space flight capabilities, but no knowledge of the Goa'uld.  That was something that everyone had thought was a bit strange.  The Goa'uld had enslaved just about everyone they had ever come across.  Daniel had wondered if their legends said anything about the Goa'uld at all.

Usually for a human type race that was as advanced as they were there were legends that could indicate the presence of the Goa'uld.  Daniel was really curious as to what type of legends this race would have.

The group managed to reach the town without any encounter of whoever might have been responsible for this.  Rounding a corner Sam thought she saw movement out of the corner of her eye but dismissed the thought but proceeded carefully when she did not see anything else.  Walking carefully along the street each member kept an eye out for any trouble that might arise.

Jonas was walking with Teal'c and neither of them had said much.  Teal'c was keeping a close eye out for anything that might pose a threat while Jonas we trying to think of what the Goa'uld might possess that could do this much destruction.

A sound off to his right caught his attention and he motioned for Teal'c who had also heard the sound.  Together they managed to gain the other two's attention and they headed towards the sound not sure what to expect.

Jack appeared on board Thor's ship along with the President which he found was a bit unusual.  There must be something that warranted this Jack thought.

"Greeting O’Neill," Thor said.

"Hey Thor, buddy, how's everything going," Jack asked still feeling a bit left in the dark about everything.

"We are doing quite well," Thor replied.  "I was brought here by the request of your President."

Jack turned to see the President standing there and waited to see what the man had to say.

"Sorry I didn't inform you sooner Jack, but we had to act fast," the President said.

"All right, but now that I'm here what's going on," Jack said.

"A week ago I got word from a university that one of their professors had found something," he told Jack.  "It was buried in the dessert and was quite large."

"Okay, how does stargate command fit into this," Jack said wondering why he was here.

"Why don't we just show you," the President said as they all turned to see the screen in front of them.

Jack's jaw dropped at what he saw in front of him.  There was a massive vessel floating not far away from Thor's ship.  It had a main body and a large thruster area.  On each side were long rectangular bays attacked to the main part of the ship with three arms.

"All right, what is it," Jack asked wondering what it was.

"That's just it Jack, we don't know yet it was buried in the sand on Earth," the President said.

"We have never seen a ship like it O'Neill," Thor replied.  "There are no records of such a ship that we know of."

"It looks big," Jack said.

"It is, over a mile and a half long," the President said.  "I'm having General Hammond take over the investigation of the ship and see if he can figure it out."

"He'll do a good job," Jack said.  "But why do you want me here?"

"Because I would like Daniel and Jonas to help me out Jack," Hammond's voice said from behind him.

"General," Jack replied before he could think about what he just said.

"I could use their help in this mystery Jack," Hammond said.

"I'll talk to them, they will probably jump at the chance to investigate this," Jack said.

"Just let me know when they are ready," Thor said.

"It might be a couple of days, they are off world right now," Jack replied.

"Whenever they can get here will be fine Jack," Hammond said.

Teal'c rounded the corner and found a person lying on the ground with a weapon in his hand.  He seemed to be shaking as his injuries were quite severe.  Sam quickly placed her weapon on the ground and knelt down beside the man.  He did not seem to be afraid of her of even Teal'c which had her a bit confused.  She had found that usually after an attack like this people shied away from the big man.

"Take it easy," Sam said as she surveyed the injuries to the man.  They were beyond her skills that much she knew.  She could make the man more comfortable though.

"Do you know who did this," Teal'c said finally as he looked down the back around to make sure there was no one else around.

"T-the S-sky-skyleons," the man managed to stutter out.

Daniel and Teal'c looked at each other not sure if they had heard correctly.  Both men were trying to think of a Goa'uld that fit that name but so far nothing came to mind.

"The Skyleons," Daniel asked not having heard the name before and glanced at Teal'c again.

"Y-yes, their re-, their real," he said as his voice faded away at the last breath.

"He's dead," Sam said a minute later.  She glanced at the wound and noticed that it was much more than a normal Goa'uld weapon blast.

"We should probably come back with reinforcements," Jonas said.

Sam looked around and realized that Jonas was probably correct.  They would need to find out what happened and they might need more numbers to protect themselves from whatever was out there.  They quickly headed back to the gate to make their report and begin the process to come back.

"Incoming wormhole," Jack heard over the intercom.  He had only been back a few minutes from his meeting with the President and Thor.  He was wondering what such a large ship was doing buried in the desert.

"SG-1 returning," they said and Jack quickly got up and walked over to the gate room.  SG-1 was not scheduled to return for another day or so.  That could only mean one thing, they ran into trouble.

He watched as each team member came through the gate without much panic, in fact they seemed quite calm to him.  He waited a few more minutes until they were in the infirmary being checked out where he caught up with the group.

"Sam," Jack asked looking at her.  "What happened?"

"Don't know sir," Sam replied honestly.  "When we got there the place had been destroyed in a mass attack.  We searched a small area and found one survivor."

"And," Jack said wondering who had attacked this planet.

"It’s someone called Skyleons," Daniel said.

"Skyleons," Jack asked looking at Daniel and Teal'c.  "Do we know him, or her?"

"That's just it Jack, we've never heard of him before," Daniel replied.

"Huh," Jack said as he glanced at Daniel.  "A new Goa'uld?"

"If he's a Goa'uld then he's the most ruthless one we've seen," Sam said from where she was standing.

Jack glanced at everyone on the team to determine what they thought about this new threat.  "What did you see," Jack finally asked.

"Everything was destroyed.  The entire civilization had been destroyed and there was not sign that the Goa'uld had done it," Jonas said.

"So there's someone new called Skyleons, we can deal with him as well," Jack said with confidence.

"I don't know Jack, this one feels," Sam trailed off as she thought about everything.  The destruction really did not fit into that of a Goa'uld attack that she had ever seen.  Usually the population was enslaved and there was evidence of the attack.  This one seemed to be more calculating than anything she had seen.

"Feels what Carter," Jack asked trying to gain more information.

"I don't know general, just different," Sam said.

"She's right," Jonas replied getting a look from Jack.

"He is right O'Neill," Teal'c said.

"All right, I'll have the other teams look into it," Jack said which got a strange look from the group.  "Thor asked that you help out in investigating something that was found at an excavation."

"Jack, what are you not telling us," Daniel said as he watched Jack fidget a bit.

"It was found on earth, and no one knows where it came from," Jack said.

"Okay, but doesn't Thor know," Sam asked.

"He's never seen a ship quite like it before," Jack said replied.

"All right then, when do," her voice was cut off as the four of them disappeared leaving Jack standing there by himself.

"Bye-bye," Jack said waving to the spot where they had been standing.  He then turned and made his way to the command center to let the other teams know about a new system lord, Skyleon.

Apollo made his way through the gate and appeared on the other side.  His brother Ares followed just a second later and the gate shut off.  They had just finished their second journey though the stargate just in case the command center did not self destruct like it had been programmed to.  There had been no written orders about this planet and only a few people knew the coordinates and they had operated the stargate on the first planet they had arrived at.

He noticed his sister Aphrodite was crying softly and that Artemis and Athena were both consoling her.  He knew that he and Ares would have to think carefully about where to go next.  It had been a long time since they had used the stargate to go anywhere.  They were not sure where their enemy was or if they would even see them again.  They did know for sure that their home world was gone.

"Apollo, let's start setting up the base," Ares said to him.  He nodded his agreement with the comment.  Glancing at the sky he noticed that nighttime was fast approaching and they would need shelter soon.

"Good idea, it’s going to get dark soon," Apollo said as the two brothers went out to the remaining people and began to organize them into groups to get the shelters up.  The equipment had been brought over several months ago and the process to begin building the structures was started.  But with this many people the structures were not ready so a large number to tents had also been brought.

Now the groups began to disperse and organize to put their tents together.  Many were still in a bit of shock after their defeat.  Millions had died in that last attack.  It had been a brilliant trap that had been laid out luring their ships to defeat leaving their home world open to attack.  They had begun the evacuations right after the defeat.

Zeus had been the highest ranking commander left after the defeat and had immediately ordered the evacuations.  For once the council of the twelve did not argue about it.  With the group under martial law it mean that Apollo and Ares were now the highest ranking military officials left, not that there was much of a military left.  Most of the remaining warriors had died buying time for the civilians to go through the stargate.

"Sir," one officer said coming up to Ares.  "We have a count of how many survived."

Ares glanced at his brother knowing that neither really wanted to know, but it was something that they had to know.  With a wave of his hand the officer continued.

"There are ten thousand three hundred and sixty-one made it through," the officer said.  "Of those we have four hundred and thirty nine warriors."

Apollo rubbed his eyes at the thought.  Only a little more than four hundred warrior survived.  It would make for a long recovery.  Perhaps there were other that might be allied to them.   They would think about once they had set up their camps and the shock had worn off.

"My lord," a young soldier dressed in armor of the Jaffa said as he approached another young man who was bald and dressed in a gold armor.

"What is it," the man said in the voice of a Goa'uld.

""One of your ships came under attack by an unknown force while it was orbiting the planet of Univil," the soldier replied.

"The Tau’ri," the man said with disgust.

"Our scouts don't think so.  We investigated the planet afterwards and there were no signs of any human life, Tau’ri, or Jaffa," the soldier replied.

"The replicators," the Goa'uld said.

"We don't think so; it isn't like one of their attacks.  The planet is still there with organic life, but there was one think our scouts did find," the soldier said.

"What," he demanded from the soldier.

"This, my lord," the soldier said handing a report to his lord.

It was a picture of an alien ship, and although it was a bit fuzzy they could make out an image.  It was composed of two saucer sections, on top of the other.  It did not match anything that they had ever seen before.

"Contact all system lords and see if they know anything about this," he said.

"Yes my lord," the soldier said with a bow and left the room.

"We go, what," Sam's voice died on her lips as she realized she was no longer on the base. That and Jack was no longer standing in front of her.  Instead it was General Hammond and another young woman who she had never seen before.

"Welcome aboard," Hammond said to the group.  "Glad you could come."

"General Hammond, it is a pleasure to see you again," Teal'c said with a slight bow.

"Ah, thanks general," Daniel said glancing around and noticing Thor was standing off to the side.  "Thor."

"Greetings Daniel, Samantha, Teal'c and Jonas Quid," Thor said to the group.

"Doctor Erin Hill, this is the best group that I've ever had the pleasure of having command of," Hammond said.  "Colonel Samantha Carter, and Daniel Jackson are from Earth, Teal'c and Jonas Quid are from other worlds."

"Pleasure," Erin said as she looked at the group.  She had heard of Daniel Jackson, he had come up with some strange theories about Egypt and other Earth legends.  She was never quite sure what to make of him, and then about seven or so years ago he seemed to drop off the face of the Earth.  Now she knew why as it seemed as if his theories were correct.

"Jack said that there was something that you needed our help on," Daniel asked turning towards Thor.

"Yes, this way," Hammond said as Thor and the general led the group down the hallway to a large observation room.

There was one widow that was open out to space and they could see the planet of Saturn nearby.  It piqued their curiosity about what was going on when a glint of sun off metal caught their attention.  Focusing on it they could tell it was a large ship.

"Is that what we're here for," Sam asked as she looked at the ship in front of her.  She could see Prometheus nearby as well and the alien ship dwarfed the Earth ship, and even Thor's ships.

"How big is it," Sam asked.

"One and a half of your Earth miles," Thor replied.  "One of the biggest ships we have yet encountered."

"Any idea as to who it belonged to or what its purpose was," Jonas asked.

"We don't know who its from but it was found on Earth by my archeological team a couple of days ago," Erin said.

"And it is most definitely a warship, and it is old," Thor replied.  "Our scientists have dated it as older than the Goa'uld that first invaded your planet, and it might even predate the ancients themselves."

"That is news," Daniel said as he listened to Thor.  Now his curiosity was getting the better of him and he wanted to know where the ship had come from.

"Is there any way to get over there and is it safe," Daniel said throwing in the last part as he thought about it.

"For the age of the ship it is still airtight and safe.  No traps have been found on the ship," Thor said.  "Our scientists are over there right now."

"What are we waiting for," Jonas asked everyone.  He for one was a bit curious about this ship and his nature demanded that he learn more about it.

In a flash they were transported to the alien ship.
