Part 2

Athena and Artemis walked along the small lake that had been near the campsite.  So far they had spent most of their time consoling Artemis' sister Aphrodite.  The young woman was taking the loss of her mother and father harder than the other siblings.  Athena reasoned it was because the other three were too busy to think about it.  Ares, Apollo and Artemis were warriors where their younger sister was a pure woman who loved cook and tell stories.  She was not one to fight and they all knew that.  Athena would tell the others that Aphrodite got all of their mother's genes that they did not get.

"Its pretty here," Athena said glancing up at the three moons that were in orbit around the planet.  At the moment all three were in view with different phases.

Artemis glanced up and noticed what Athena was talking about.  So far they had been there for a week and nothing much had happened.  Most of the time had been spent making sure that everything was taken care of for basic needs.  The shelters had been put up and they were now beginning to scavenge for food in the local area.  There was some game in the area that was edible and actually quite good but no other intelligent life had been encountered.

A sudden sound made them both look over toward the stargate.  They could see it beginning to turn around as chevrons activated.  The sudden whoosh indicated that gateway had been established.  Artemis could see people beginning to run around and taking up defensive positions as she and Athena also began to run towards the gate drawing their own weapons as they went.

Apollo and Ares quickly scrambled around as the alarm came through the camp.  The warriors quickly set up their positions hoping that it was not their enemies that would come through.  Both of their hearts sank at the sounds of a battle being waged.  As they approached they noticed what appeared to armored men firing with staffs.  Their firepower was good but not very accurate, or as good as their enemies.

Within a few minutes the fight was over and just a few of the attackers were left, one looked to be the leader of the group.  Ares walked over to the man who looked defiant the entire time.  Ares wanted nothing more than to smack the look off his face but they needed information.

"What happened," Ares asked looking around noticing that a couple of warriors were down, but not nearly as many as the attackers.

"They came through the gate and opened fire," Artemis said walking up to her brother.

Ares turned around and faced the man who appeared to be in charge.  "Who are you and why did you attack us," he asked.

"I am first prime, Re'lee to my Lord Thoth.  We know all about you and your lies Tau'ri," the man said and Ares could hear the venom in the man's words.

"I don't know who Thoth is, or the Tau'ri," Ares said watching as the man looked in shock at him.

"Thoth is a god," the man said.  "And he will destroy you if you don't join with him."

"Well from what I see," Ares said picking up the staff weapon and examining it.  "We don't have much to be worried about then."

"My god has powerful allies that will crush you," Re'lee relied not backing down from his stance.

"Perhaps I should talk with him then," Ares said more to Apollo who was standing next to him than anyone else.

"I'm not sure about that brother," Apollo said from where he was standing and listening to the conversation.  "It doesn't feel right."

Ares was about to argue when Aphrodite chimed in that she thought Apollo was right.  He glanced over to look at his younger sister.  She had a look on her face that reminded him of their mother Hera and knew that Apollo was right this time.  He could feel it as well.

"You're right brother, thanks," Ares said before motioning the guards to take the attackers away until such time they could figure out what to do with them.

"There will be more," Athena said from where she had been standing.

"I know," Ares said.

"Perhaps we should try and find these Tau'ri," Apollo said.

"Perhaps, but if they are at war with this Thoth then they would know how to fight using stargates," Ares said thinking about the problem.

"They would have a cover on their stargate against invaders," Apollo said.

"Perhaps we should start thinking of something similar," Artemis said as she watched a couple of the warriors being helped by the med teams.

"That's a good idea, we'll have to ask our scientists about it," Ares said.  "For the moment we should increase the guards around the gate and set up some heavy firepower as well."

"I'll get on it," Apollo said walking off towards the warriors who were busy working to give the new orders.

"Come on, lets get some sleep and we'll figure out what to do in the morning," Ares said.

Daniel sat down at the table where Jonas and Sam were both sitting.  So far the work aboard the mysterious ship had been slow.  There had been a few symbols that they could understand, but so far nothing that made a break through for them. There had bits and pieces that they had deciphered along with the help of the Asguard but they appeared to still be in the dark as well.

"Daniel, what if these aren't pictographs like the Goa'uld use but more like the letters our two civilizations use," Jonas said as he stared at a page.

"If that's the case it might take us years to learn it, maybe even lifetimes," Sam said as she glanced at the paper full of symbols.

Daniel rubbed his eyes as he placed another book on the table.  He had been looking over the legends of the civilization that had recently been destroyed trying to see if anything could help out there as well.  So far the legends were quite different to anything else on any other planet.  It was full of Greek gods and goddesses, not Egyptian, but that did not make much sense to him.  Even the legends were different.

As Daniel flipped though the book Jonas suddenly reached across the table to grab the book.  Both Sam and Daniel were startled by his actions.  Jonas quickly flipped through the book until he came to the page that had first caught his attention.

"This, what is this," Jonas said quickly turning the book back around to face Daniel.

"Ah, let's see," Daniel said glancing at the spot where Jonas was pointing.  Daniel quickly read thought the part for understanding.  "Well if I understand it correctly, it’s the name of the man who lead a group of about 200 to some place.  I haven't been able to make out where."

"Because that is the same symbols that are on the outside of this ship," Jonas replied.

"That might prove interesting," Daniel said.

"Daniel, what is the legend that goes with," Sam asked.

"Well according to the legend, this man and several others, called warriors, fought a war against a mortal enemy.  Their enemy was an evolved life form that became more robotic.  They fought for over a thousand years.  That's when one of the warriors betrayed them.  All of the warriors were killed except for him.  He gathered up the survivors and fled for whatever this is," Daniel said pointing to the word.

"Interesting story, perhaps we should use this along with this ships computer to see if we can find anything," Sam said.

"It’s worth a shot, maybe we can see what Teal'c thinks after his next mission," Daniel said.  Teal'c had returned back to Stargate command for a new mission that Jack wanted him to head up.

"Sounds good," Sam said.  "I'll let Jack know next time I talk with him.

"Report," the figure on the pedestal said to the two figures below it.

"Our attacks have met very little resistance," one of them said.

"Excellent, proceed into the galaxy," the leader said.

"By your command," the figure said and left the room.

Jack was immediately walking to the command room when he heard the announcement of an unscheduled incoming wormhole.  He had just shown up when the gate activated.  He quickly glanced down to the officer on duty.

"No IDC sir," the reply came.

Jack took a breath before saying what needed to be said.  "Close the iris," he said.

They all watched as the iris closed off the gate blocking anyone from coming through.  Jack watched as he waited to see what was going to happen when it started to go off the scale.

"Multiple hits," the officer said watching the screen as it registered hit after hit.

"Is there anything," Jack asked hoping that he was not making a mistake in not opening the iris.

"Negative sir, nothing on any channel, except for one but it is unknown to us," the officer said.

"Could it be Goa'uld," Jack asked hoping that they would say yes.

"Unknown, it might be but we just don't know," the reply came.

Jack stood there hoping that he was not making the mistake that could have cost lives of innocent people.  There had been a lot of hits on the iris and each one could have been a child or other civilian fleeing the Goa’uld.  He was just about to order the iris open when the hits on the iris stopped.  The gate was still active and continued to be until it shut down five minutes later.

"How many hits," Jack asked hoping that it was not too high.

"Fifty hits exactly," the officer replied.

"Fifty," Jack replied wanting to make sure that they had gotten the count right.

"Yes sir," the man replied.

"That is not normal for a Goa'uld operation," Teal'c said from where he was standing.

"No, and they know that they can't get through our iris," Jack said.

"Perhaps it is the new system lord Skyleon," Teal'c said.

"Could be," Jack said.  "If it was then he's dumber than we thought."

"Perhaps," Teal'c said but he did not sound convinced about that.

"All right, now that the excitement is over lets get back to work everyone," Jack said as he headed towards his office with Teal'c following him.

Ares headed to the tent where they were holding their prisoners.  He wanted to see what they knew and what type of new danger they might be facing.  So far there were several ideas that were going through his head.  From the short conversation they had the previous night Ares was sure that there was nothing the two of them would agree on.

Walking into the tent he noticed the three men were tied up with armed guards standing around them.  Ares noticed that the leader was still looking quite defiant despite his current conditions.

"Hello again Re'lee, now who is this Thoth," Ares asked hoping that he might get more information this time.

"He will be your god soon enough," the man replied.  "When we fail to return he will return with more Jaffa to defeat you."

"We're not your enemy, there is one that is really your enemy, they should be feared," Ares said.

"My god fears no one," Re'lee replied.  "No one can defeat them."

"They are human," Ares asked making the man look at him strangely.

"They taken human hosts which is a privilege," Re'lee replied.

"Then they will die," Ares said.  "My enemy only lives for one thing now, the complete destruction of the human race."

"Then let them come, we have faced bigger threats and defeated them," Re'lee replied.

"Not like them," Ares said sadly.

"Chevron seven engaged and locked," the voice said as the stargate engaged and a wormhole was established.  There were the normal sounds as the alarm was going on whenever a wormhole was activated.

"Send through the mouse," Jack said from where he was standing watching everything.  It felt a bit different to be the one giving orders.  General Hammond had done it for so long that he had gotten used to the man doing it.

"Probe off," the reply came from the officer in charge of it.

Jack glanced at the stargate room where Teal'c and his team were waiting then back down to the screen to see what the probe would see.  The images that came back were not what he was expecting to see.  There was a group that he had never seen before and it reminded him of a group of Jaffa, but this group was different.  He reached over to the microphone to see if he could communicate with them.

Apollo walked over to the tent where he knew Ares was talking to the prisoners when a warrior came running up to him.  He knew by the man's face that it was important.

"Commander, the stargate is activating," he said in a huff.

"Alert everyone, form a perimeter around the gate, no one gets through at all costs," Apollo said as the man quickly ran back with his orders shouting as he went.  Apollo quickly ran into the tent to alert his brother.

He noticed that Ares and the prisoners were just standing there looking at each other.  Ares glanced at him and knew that something was wrong already.

"We have visitors coming again," Apollo said watching as a smirk appeared on Re'lee's face.

"See my god is coming," he said to the two brothers.

"We better give them a warm welcome then," Ares said with a smile that made Re'lee involuntarily move back from him.

"Let's go," Apollo said knowing that his brother had a way with looks.

Arriving at the gate they noticed that it was just activating.  They raised their weapons ready for anything that might come through.  What did come through was not quite what they were expecting.  It was a robot of some sort, but unlike anything their enemy had ever sent against them.  This one had wheels, an arm, and looked more like a probe than anything else.

"Everyone hold positions," Ares yelled out.  There was something about it that did not give off a potential of danger even though he was not ready to discount that yet.

He watched it for a second while what appeared to be a camera rotated on the robot.  It had not moved since it had come through the gate and stopped about ten feet away.  A glance around and Ares noticed that all of the warriors were a bit nervous about what was happening.  He knew that he was not to comfortable with this situation either.

"I'm going to see what it is," Apollo said whispering to Ares.  Ares glanced at his brother not sure if this was the right thing to do or not but watched as his brother approached the thing.

"This is General Jack O’Neill United States military," a voice said from the 'robot'.  Apollo had quickly drawn his weapon when he first heard the voice.  A glanced back at his brother and he saw that everyone else had their weapons pointed at the thing as well.

"This is Commander Apollo, what are you," Apollo replied to the voice.

"I'm human," the reply came a couple of seconds later.  "What are you?"

"I'm commander of the Colonial warriors," Apollo replied wondering about what was going on.  By then his brother had joined him and they were looking over the vehicle.  "What is this?"

"The machine is a scout to make sure that the atmosphere is breathable and nothing hostile is waiting for us on the other side of the stargate," the voice identified as Jack said.

"I see, so this isn't how you look,” Ares said making sure.

"Right, we look very much like you," the voice said again.

"We would like to meet with you," Apollo said.

"I can arrange it, in two hours we'll send a four man team to meet with you," the voice said.

"Two hours," Apollo asked.

"Before you day is out," the voice said.

"We'll be waiting," Apollo said and with that the gate shut down.  Apollo turned to Ares after thinking for a second.  "We might have made some allies."

"Perhaps, they might even know this Tau'ri," Ares said watching as Apollo nodded his head.

Jack sat at his desk looking over the morning reports when a knock came on his door.  He looked up and saw someone that he would have rather not seen the rest of his life.  It was the Vice-President Robert Kinsey.

"Well, to what do I owe the honor," Jack said a bit sarcastically to the man.

"I’d do well enough to stay civil general," Robert said using the word general like a slang term.  "I've noticed that a new report has come across my desk."

Jack leaned back in his chair as he could only think of one thing that Vice-President Robert Kinsey could be thinking of, the spaceship that had been discovered.

"Let me guess, the spaceship," Jack said looking right into the man's eyes.

"I can't believe you brought the Asguard in on this.  It would be something that we could have used in case they became hostile against us Jack.  Instead you hand them the biggest single ship on the planet," the Vice-President said. "Now you've endangered everyone on this planet, along with a new threat that you seem to want to find."

"We are not trying to find him.  We're trying to gather intelligence on him.  There is a difference," Jack said.  "But then I guess you're plan is to shoot first ask questions later."

"No, I wouldn't have opened this Pandora’s box in the first place," Robert said voicing his opinion as he always did about the stargate project.

"But it’s already open," Jack said.  The two men did not like each other and Jack was wondering what was going on this time.

"Yes and now instead of keeping things that might help us to ourselves, you go and give things to people like the Asguard," Robert said.

"And how would you have proposed to get it out, dig it out and keep it a secret," Jack replied.

"At least it would have remained here," the reply came back.

"And we don't have the knowledge to decipher what was written on it, even the Asguard don't know," Jack told him.  "It would probably take us decades to figure it out."

"Next time, you ask me first or you'll regret it Jack," Robert said walking out of the office.

"Yes sir," Jack replied a bit sarcastically to the man's retreating back.

Jonas walked into the office where Jack was sitting and the man did not look to happy.  He had seen another man walk by and had a feeling that he was bad news.  Jonas pushed that thought out of him mind and concentrated on why he was there.  He had been called back to stargate command by Jack himself.  He was wondering what was going on and figure he would wait until Jack told him.

"Have a seat Jonas," Jack said from where he was sitting.  He was looking over some papers then looked back up to Jonas.

Jonas was sure that he was ordering him back to him home.  He was not ready to leave Stargate Command.  Some of the most exciting moments of his life had happened here.  He also liked to think of Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c as friends.

"I want you to go on a mission with Teal'c, it’s a diplomatic mission," Jack said.

"Why me sir," Jonas replied not sure about it.  "I’m not even from Earth."

"I want a scientific person on this mission, and I can't take Sam and Daniel away from their mission, so you're the next best one," Jack said relaying his trust in Jonas' intelligence.  "Also Corporal John Jaktan will be in charge of negations for Earth, you and Teal'c are there for your experience."

"Then I'll go Jack," Jonas replied.

"Good, you leave in a few minutes," Jack said watching as Jonas got up and walked out of the room headed to the gate room.

Jonas walked in just in time for the seventh chevron to activate.  The stargate came to life.

"You are just in time Jonas Quinn," Teal'c said to him.

"Sorry, didn't have much time to get ready for this mission," Jonas replied.

"Nonetheless you did make it," Teal'c said as they walked to the gate.  They then walked through it headed for a diplomatic mission.

Apollo and Ares stood waiting for the arrival of the new comers.  They had watched as the gate activated then a few moments later a man wearing green with a shoulder weapon, a cap and sunglasses walked through the gate.  There was a bit of a surprise but the man was not even carried it in a hostile way.  He was followed by another two men dressed the same.  It was the last man that caught his attention.  He had a symbol on his forehead that resembled the previous men who had come through and attacked them.

"What god do you serve," Apollo asked approaching the man with the symbol on his head.

"I serve no false gods," the man replied with convection.

"Then you don't serve Thoth," Apollo asked.

"Thoth is a false god, a Goa'uld and is a parasite," the man replied.  The tone in the man's voice said everything for Ares.  He knew that this man did not work for Thoth.

"Come, there is much to discuss," Ares said motioning for the four men to walk with him.  "There is much we must tell each other, but first my name is Ares, and this is my brother Apollo."

"I'm Corporal Jaktan, this is Private Terrison, and the other two with me are Jonas Quinn and Teal'c," the man said to Ares.

"Is this where you're from," Jonas said as he looked around the area.  He was feeling that the group felt more like refugees than a home world.

"No, we were forced to leave our home world after we were defeated by our enemies," Ares said.

"Have you heard of someone called Skyleons," Teal'c asked wondering if they had been attacked by the same system lord as the other planet, or if they were part of that planet.

"Skyleons, I've never heard of anyone by that name," Apollo said though he was thinking about something when he heard that name. He and Ares shared a brief look that Teal'c did not miss.

"Have you heard the word Skyleon before," Teal'c asked.

"No, I don't think so," Apollo said again.  They walked to the tent where everything had been set up for a formal meeting between the two groups.

Jonas walked along with the group eyeing the technology along with the people.  They seemed to be very advanced and their weapons were more advanced than anything Jonas had ever seen.  As they approached the tent he noticed a small red haired woman who smiled at the group of children around her.  He could hear laughter coming from the area but it was her that attracted his attention.  He had never seen anyone quite like her before.  With a second glance at the woman he walked into the tent to listen to the beginning of the diplomatic process.

"Incoming wormhole," the voice said over the intercom alerting the entire base that there might be trouble coming in.  Everyone ran to their stations to see what was going on.

"I'm getting a signal, its Master Bra'tac," the officer said.

"Open the iris," Jack said as he began to walk down to greet their uninvited guest.  Several things were wondering around in his mind and all of them were bad news.

He walked in just as Bra'tac and several other Jaffa quickly walked through the gate.  He watched as even more Jaffa came through the gate.

It was then that laser fire began to come through the gate.  Everyone took cover and the guards assumed defensive positions just in case.

"That's everyone, place up your iris," Bra’tac said which Jack did so.  A few seconds later there was an audible thump against the iris as the attackers began to hit it.

"Master Bra'tac," Jack said walking over to the older man.

"General O'Neill, it is good to see you again, though I wish it wasn't under such circumstances," Bra'tac said.

"Well if it isn't your savior Jack," Vice-President Robert Kinsey said walking over to where they were standing.

"He's still here," Bra'tac said giving a marked look at Robert.  Neither of them back down from their stare and finally Jack had enough.

"Bra'tac, what happened," Jack said as he looked around at the Jaffa who was now being helped by the SG staff.

"I'm not sure O’Neill," Bra'tac said.  "Whoever they were they came out of no where and attacked with a ferocity that I’ve never seen before in my life."

"Another make believe threat against Earth," Robert said with a sigh.

"When will you accept that there are threats against our planet even if we did nothing," Jack said turning to the man.

"I believe that if we close this program down we would no longer be involved in any of this," the man said.

"Bra'tac, any idea as to who they were," Jack asked deciding to ignore the Vice President.

"I've never seen them before in my life.  All I know is that they were robots, and they were very efficient in their jobs," Bra'tac said.

"Replicators," Jack asked wondering if that could be the cause.

"I do not know.  If it was them then they have evolved again," Bra'tac replied.

"What about the base," Jack asked.

"The base on Hemdar is gone," Bra'tac replied.

"So all of that money we spent was wasted," the Vice President said.

"We were overrun before we could even mount a defense," Bra'tac said to Jack ignoring the man as well.

"That's not good," Jack replied.  "Well we'll give aide and help you with a new base."

"We would be most grateful," Bra'tac replied.

"Wait a minute here," the Vice President said.  "You are not going to waste our money helping them."

"I run the SG command, not you.  And until I hear otherwise from the President I'll continue to run it my way," Jack said to the man who turned around and with a muffled threat walked away.

"I see he is still causing you trouble O’Neill," Bra'tac said.

"He comes in even so often to complain," Jack said.  "I'm more concerned with whoever attacked you.  We were about to strike up an alliance with another group, planet PX-3342, when something attacked and destroyed their entire planet.  Scout teams did not find any survivors."

"It is possible.  A system lord would want to keep some of the population alive as slaves," Bra'tac said thinking bout his knowledge.

"Have you ever heard of Skyleon," Jack asked.

"Skyleon," Bra'tac replied as he thought about the name.  "No, I'm afraid that I have never heard of him."

"We think he is the one behind this," Jack said.

"If so, then he is a force to be reckoned with, and not taken lightly as he would take a threat," Bra'tac said with a motion to the door where the Vice-President had disappeared.

"I'll see if there is any available planets we can use," Jack said.

"Anything would be appreciated," Bra'tac replied.

Jonas walked away from the tent during their first break in talks.  So far there had been a little bit of headway made.  They were looking for supplies and forces to use against their enemies.  John had been doing a good job in the negotiations but so far there had been little to do beside food exchange.  Jonas wondered if Earth was maybe stretching its recourses too far now.

He glanced around and noticed that the red head was still with the children.  He casually wondered over just to hear what she was saying.  He had learned from Daniel that sometimes the best way to learn about a culture is by the children's tales that were told.  As he approached he was able to hear her voice.  It was as sweet as honey and he found himself listening to the tone of her voice and being drawn in.  He realized she was telling a legend.

"The proud Commander Adama watched hopeless as his world was destroyed.  It was not until after the battle that he realized that the Galactica alone survived the battle.  The other four, Atlantia, Triton, Pacifica, and Acropolis were all destroyed," the woman said pausing after giving the names.  "Adama knowing that his people would need help rallied his people around the Galactica and any ship that could travel and was loaded with people."

Jonas' listening was interrupted by Teal'c coming to get him of the continuation of the talks.  He spared one last glance at the woman who made eye contact with him and smiled.  It seemed to light up her entire face and he miss stepped for a second as she continued her story.  As he turned away he heard a name that made him stop in his tracks.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but what did you just say," Jonas said approaching the group.

"No problem," the small woman said.  "You must be the newcomers; I said that they headed towards the thirteenth tribe called Earth."
