Part 3

"Incoming wormhole," the officer said as Jack came running into the command room.  He looked at the officer to see if the people coming in were friendly or not.  There was a code coming in and the iris was opened.

Jack watched as Teal'c and Jonas walked through the gate along with another man who appeared to be dressed similarly to what they wore.  The man had no visible weapon and Jack was left wondering what was going on.  The man appeared to be a man in charge by the very nature he glanced around with his eyes and the way he held himself.  He was taller than Jack was and had black hair along with a thin beard.  Then another person appeared behind them.  This person was about five feet tall with red hair.  She appeared just the opposite of the man who had just walked through.

"Teal'c, what's going on," Jack asked approaching his friend as Bra'tac appeared beside Jack.

"General O'Neill, Master Bra'tac," Teal'c replied giving a slight bow to his former master, teacher and friend.

"I see the young pup has returned," Bra'tac said to his former student and friend.  He had been told by Jack that he was on a mission to a new world that might be receptive to an alliance.

"Ah, Teal'c," Jack said with a motion of his head to the two people who had come through the gate with him.  Jack thought it was highly unusual for people to be brought into the SG command but did trust Teal'c's judgment.

"General O’Neill, this is Ares, and his sister Aphrodite," Jonas replied introducing the two visitors.

Jack stared at the two for a moment as he heard their names.  He was not sure about these two from their names.  His previous encounters with other named after ancient gods or goddesses were not good.

"Let me guess," Jack said.  "You have a twin brother named Apollo," he said to Aphrodite.

"Actually Apollo is my twin brother," Ares said eyeing the man called O’Neill.  Jonas had mentioned that the man was a bit rough around the edges when it came to tact.  He also had the feeling that they would probably get along just fine.

"Right," Jack said not missing a beat.  "Now Teal'c what's going on?"

"The negotiations are going quite well O’Neill, but there has been a development that you should be aware of," Teal'c replied.  "Jonas overheard one of their legends."

"And," Jack asked hoping that they would get to the part that was important real soon.

"One of their legends involves Earth general," Jonas said watching as both Bra'tac and Jack's eyebrows went up at that.

"Interesting," Jack replied wondering what type of legend this was.  So far they had not encountered a legend from another planet that had Earth in it.  "In that case welcome to Earth."

Ares glanced around taking in everything around with a sense of purpose.  His sister however seemed to just take everything in stride as she soaked up as much as possible.

"I too am interested in hearing this legend," Bra'tac replied.  This was a first for him.  He had never heard of Earth until he had been a first prime of Aphopsis and even then that was strictly confidential material.

"Perhaps we should convene in the main meeting room," Jack said as he led the way to the table.

The table still had several reports along with pictures from the case that Sam and Daniel were working on.  He was being kept up to date just in case anything happened.  He quickly picked up several of the pictures and put them away as the group sat down at the table.  Watching the two visitors he knew that they were from a more civilized world than other groups.

"I would have liked to have had Daniel or Sam join us but their still busy," Jack said.  "I'm trusting you Jonas," he told the man looking right at him.

"I won't let you down," Jonas replied with confidence.  He was sure that this might be important.

"Well, we have a legend among our people that Earth was a fabled thirteenth tribe of the great civilization of Kobal," Ares said starting the tale.  He had brought Aphrodite along because she knew the tales much better than he did so she could keep the story straight.

"Kobal, I'm not familiar with it he said as he turned to Jonas and Bra'tac.  Neither of them had ever heard of the place before.

"Our legends say that Kobal was made up of thirteen tribes, twelve settled down close together while the remain one left and traveled a great distance before settling down on Earth," Ares said continuing what he knew about the tale.  "The twelve tribes lost contact with the thirteenth until it was a legend.  A great evil arose and for a thousand yaherns the twelve tribes fought them."

"A great evil," Jack said wondering who this evil was.  His first thought was the Gou'ald.

"Sounds like you know who defeated them," Jack asked.

"We do," Ares replied without humor.  "They defeated the twelve tribes in a great betrayal, a baltar."

"A baltar," Jack asked not sure what that meant.

"A baltar is one of your own betrays your entire race.  That is what happened.  They then destroyed the powerful colonial war fleet then their home worlds, only one of the warships survived.  It's commander, Adama, gathered up the survivors and journeyed to Earth where a new civilization was begun," Ares told them.

"We have no legends of this happening," Jack said knowing that Daniel would love this one.

"That sound familiar," Jonas replied as he listened to what Ares was saying.  "Is that an accurate account of the legend?"

"I believe so, Aphrodite, what do you think," Ares replied turning to his sister to back up his story.  She seemed to ignore his comments as she was looking at the papers that Jack had sitting on the table when they first arrived.  He gave her a slight tap on the shoulder to get her back from where ever she had gone.

"What," she said her green eyes snapping back to the present.  "I'm sorry I was thinking about one of the pictures you had on the table when we arrived," she said a bit shyly.

"Really," Jack said as he turned around and picked up the photos again.  He handed her the stack to see if she what she thought.

Aphrodite's eyes grew round as she glanced at one of the pictures.  "The Galactica," she whispered holding the picture of some writing.

"Galactica," her brother replied not sure what she was talking about.

"The Galactica was the name of the battlestar that survived, the one that Adama commanded to Earth," Aphrodite said excitedly before turning her attention back to Jack.  "Where did you get this picture?"

Jack was silent for a second before deciding to tell them where he had found the picture.  "This is a picture of the side of a ship found in one of out deserts."

"Did you look like this," Aphrodite said taking a piece of paper and drawing a quick sketch of the ship that Jack has seen.

Jonas and Teal'c both were amazed at the remarkable resemblance between the sketch and the ship that had been found.  All three looked at each other knowing that there was more going on here than normal.

"I think that perhaps we should go and meet with Daniel and Sam," Jack said.  "If you give me just a minute we can go greet them," he said quickly turning to get in touch with Thor.

"My lord," the Jaffa soldier said to the Gou'ald leader who he thought was a god.

"Report," the Gou'ald replied.

"There are incoming ships of an unknown type that we've never seen before," the man replied to his leader.

"Move the fleet off to intercept," the Gou'ald replied.

"Yes my lord Thoth," the man replied.

Within a few minutes Thoth's fleet moved off to intercept the new fleet that was approaching them.  The designs of the ships were uniquely different than anything else in the universe.  The ships were made up of two massive disks that sat on top of one another.  The ships moved slower than other known ships but did not have a known propulsion source.

"Scanners indicate a large number of incoming fighters," the report came to Thoth.

"Launch our gliders to intercept," Thoth ordered.  The Gou'ald gliders left the landing bays but were still largely outnumbered by the incoming ships.

"The incoming ships are now within weapons range," the weapons officer said.

"Destroy them," Thoth said as the weapon systems on the Gou'ald ships opened fire just as the two groups of fighters engaged each other.

"Scanners indicate no real damage to incoming ships.  They are still launching fighters," the Jaffa said to his lord.

In between the two fleets the Gou'ald gliders were being slaughtered by the incoming fighters.  They appeared to be no match for this new enemy.

Then the incoming warships opened fire.  The effects were devastating to the Gou'ald fleet.  The enemy firepower ripped right though the armor of the Gou'ald ships as if it was made of paper sending many of the Jaffa into a bit of panic even though their 'god' was right there.

As Thoth's flagship exploded there was a single white beam of light that went down to the planet.  The rest of his fleet did not last much longer.

"Report centurion," a being said sitting on a large pedestal facing two black and grey looking robots.  Each had a single red eye that bounced back and forth across its face.

"The human fleet has been neutralized," the reply came from one of them.

"Excellent, move on to the planet and destroy them all," it replied.

"By your command," the centurion said as they both turned around and walked out.

Sam looked again at the screen in front of her.  They had managed to get the computer online on the mysterious warship but that had not revealed anything new.  They still were no closer to solving the mystery of who build it or why.  They had managed to get some bits and pieces of what might have happened.  The ship had been constructed to fight a mysterious enemy.

There were schematics of the enemy ships along with numerous other ships that they assumed were friendly ships.  Ancient weapon systems on board the ship were still functional it seemed but there was little comprehension of how they worked.  From what little Sam had seen of the weapons it was powered by a source that was much greater than anything they had seen before.  She was still amazed that the ship still had power.

At the moment she was working on a couple of maps that the ship's computer had stored.  She had linked up with Thor's ship to see if they could line up the stars and so far there was nothing.  The massive computer power had been at work now for almost a day and Sam was about to give up when it beeped at her.

"At last," she said to herself and pulled up the file to look at the date.  It really surprised her when she saw what it said.  "If this is correct then these charts predate even the Ancients according to Asgard technology."

"What does," Daniel said looking up from where he was working.

"These star maps," Sam relied.  "That and some of them still are not identifiable."

"That old," Daniel said taking note in what Sam was saying.  He walked over to where she was sitting to see for himself.  "Perhaps these were the ones who the Ancients looked up to and learned from," he said after looking for a moment.

"Then why don't the Asgard know anything about them," Sam replied.

"I don't know, maybe they did and just didn't know it," Daniel replied.  "Perhaps they are part of the Asgard’s legends and myths."

"Then we should ask them about this then," Sam said.

"Ask me what," Thor said as he walked into the room.

"Thor," Sam said turning her head to see the Asgard walk over to where she was sitting.

"O’Neill has asked for you and Daniel Jackson to meet him aboard my ship," Thor told them.

"All right," Sam said wondering what was going on and could only think that something else had happened.

Ares and Aphrodite found themselves beamed aboard a ship which they could only figure was Thor's ship of the Asgard.  They both wondered at what the technological level would be of this race.  They might be an important factor in the defense of the galaxy.

A blonde woman and another man wearing glasses came walking into the room where they were standing along with Jack and Jonas.  Ares could tell that the group knew each other quite well by the way they welcomed each other.  He heard General O'Neill introduce the blonde as Sam and the man as Daniel.

"So Jack, what's so important," Sam asked as she turned her eyes away from the man to Jack.

"I think you'll find this amusing," Jack said as Thor led them out to the area where they could view the starship.

Ares rounded the corner and saw a ship floating in space just like he had seen pictures of in the myths and legends.  He stood there for a few second realizing what it was in front of him.

"The Galactica," Aphrodite whispered as she saw the ship as well.  It was even larger than she had realized and looked even more menacing than any drawings she had seen.

"Ah, the Galactica," Daniel asked not sure what was going on when he heard the red head woman whisper the name.  He then turned to Jack for an explanation as the two visitors seemed to be absorbed in looking at the ship.

"It’s the name on the outside of the ship, Galactica," Jack said to the group.

"You can read that writing," Daniel asked the two.

"I can a little, but my sister is fluent in it.  It is the language of our ancients," Ares said.

"Then perhaps you can help us," Sam said as the red head turned to look at them.

"With what," she replied.

"We don't know who built it or why," Daniel replied.

"We'll explain everything, or at least as much as we know," Aphrodite replied.  "Much of what we have is legend and myths surrounding the Galactica and Earth."

Daniel's eyebrows went up at that comment.  He glanced at Jack hoping that he would shed some light on the subject but he remained silent.

"Earth," Daniel asked curious as to what the woman was referring to.

"Of course, the thirteenth tribe of Kobal," the woman replied really leaving Daniel in the dark about what was going on.

"Kobal," Sam asked.

"Boy, you really don't know about that do you," she said with a smile.  "Kobal is the home of all humanity."

"We must act quickly," Ares said turning to the others as he finally snapped out of his trance.  "The ancient enemy is moving on us again," he told them.  "How operational is the Galactica?"

"From what we can tell quite operational," Sam replied having read that report from the other Asgard scientists a few hours ago.

"I would like to see for myself if I may," Ares said.

Daniel watched as the man called Ares walked through the ship pausing in certain areas to look around and glance at the walls.  He would talk with his sister, who was called Aphrodite, about what was written.  The reached the bridge and Ares almost stopped in awe of it.  It was almost as if he was treading on sacred ground.

He walked to the center of the bridge and stood there with his eyes closed for a while before opening them again.  Aphrodite had walked over to a group of panels and had activated a control as several screens came to live along with a large star map that was behind them.

"Ares," she suddenly called out breaking the silence.  He walked over to where she was standing and they looked at the screen.

"Can you transfer that to the star map," he asked.  Aphrodite nodded her head and within seconds there were half a dozen red dots along one side of the map.

Ares walked over to the map and looked at it for a second.  Jack finally decided that he wanted to know what was going on.

"What are they," he asked hoping that he might get an answer.

"Our enemy, each dot represents an enemy fleet," Ares said.  They are sweeping across the galaxy now unimpeded by anyone."

"They will encounter the Gou'ald," Jack said.  "They won't roll over lightly."

"Perhaps, but roll over they will," Ares replied.  "From what I've seen of Gou'ald technology it’s inferior to what they would need.  I'm not even sure about the Asgard."

"The Asgard fleet is quite capable," Thor replied.

"Perhaps, but this enemy is unlike anything you've ever seen or encountered.  Their only mission is to destroy all life," Ares replied.

"Sounds like the replicators," Jack said then continued when Ares looked at him strangely.  "Another race of machines.  They use the metal of the ships to replicate themselves hence the name."

"Let me guess, each machine consists of a group of blocks that in a way is independent yet part of a whole," Ares said watching as they all nodded their head affirmative.  "Primitive," Ares said.  "Easy to destroy using sonic weapons."

That caught everyone by surprise.  It had taken much development and the help of Jack's altered mind with the Ancients to create such a weapon and here was a man saying that the replicators were primitive.

"Our enemy has evolved beyond that," Ares told them.

"Who are your enemies," Sam asked wanting to have a name.  "Are they related to the Skyleons?"

"Skyleons," Ares said pondering the name.  "Maybe, the sound is similar, where did you hear such a name?"

"Actually, here," Daniel said pointing to a place on the star map.  Ares noticed that where they were pointing was close to their home world and would have fallen quickly after his planet fell.

"Yes it probably was the same group," Ares said.  "They are called Cylons."

"Cylons," Jack asked.

"Yes," Ares said.  "There is one last place I would like to look at."

Daniel followed the group through the corridors of the ship.  A glance beside him he noticed that Jonas was next to him.

"What do you think Jonas," Daniel asked wondering what the other man thought.

"I've been doing a lot of thinking.  I've heard a lot so far, and from what I've heard I think they are telling the truth to us.  Perhaps the Gou'ald has destroyed the legends and myths about all of this," Jonas replied.

"It might be, the Gou'ald were quite brutal in stamping out other legends, but if they were that advanced then how did the Gou'ald conqueror them," Daniel replied not sure he could come up with an answer.

They went down a long elevator into a dark large room.  It was a place that so far had not been explored yet.  They descended down into the darkness hoping that they were safe from anything.

Ares hopped out the moment the elevator hit the floor.  Quickly finding what he needed to find he pulled the switch as the lights came on.  The area was light up and what was in there surprised everyone.  No one had been in this part of the ship yet so they had not expected what was there before them.

He glanced around him and noted with a pleasant surprise what was around him.

"It is true, the legend is true," he whispered to Aphrodite who seemed to understand.

"Yes, when the darkness returns the Galactica will rise again," Aphrodite said.
