Part 5

The woman pulled her jacket a bit further around herself as the wind and rain pelted at her.  She walked slowly down the sidewalk as she made her way.  Her hands stuffed in her pockets to remain warm from the pouring rain.  A crack of thunder rippled across the sky indicating that the storm had no indention of letting up any time soon.  The sound of tires on gravel made the woman turn to look.  She could make out the headlights of an oncoming car.

The car turned out to be a limousine which stopped right in front of her.  The door opened and she quickly hopped into the car.  The driver then sped up and left the area.

"You took your time," the woman said to the man who was seated comfortably across from her.

"Do you have it or not," the man replied.

"Such impatience," the woman said before unzipping her jacket.

"We don't have much time for games," the man said narrowing his eyes at her.  "We have to act fast to prevent another Pandora’s Box from being opened."

"Everything's a Pandora’s Box to you vice president," the woman replied as she took out a manila folder and handed it to him.

"That's because it was a foolish endeavor and something that never should have been opened.  If that blasted Daniel Jackson hadn't figured it out we might not be sinking money into a worthless battle," Kinsey replied with a bit of venom in his voice.

"That doesn't matter sir, this does," she said as he took the envelope from her hand.  He quickly opened it up and scanned through the documents inside.  His face frowned a bit as he read through it.

"It seems like out friends at Stargate command are busier than we thought they were," he said looking up at her.

"Yes they are," she replied.

"This information will be most useful to us," he said then with a quick hand gesture the vehicle stopped.  "I think you should get out here though before anyone sees you."

"Very well," she replied opening the door after the vehicle stopped letting her back out into the rain.  The door had barely closed when the limo sped off down the road.

The woman glanced around to see if anyone was around.  Not seeing anyone she continued on her way back down the road.

Jack walked back into his office after his short visit to the group that called themselves the Colonials.  There was a lot of information that had to be sorted out and he had the feeling that there was not much time to do it in.  There was the nagging feeling that the Vice President was going to become more involved than what he let on.  The man almost never dropped by without something going on.  The only thing he could figure out was he had gotten wind of the ship that had been discovered.

"Am I interrupting anything," Jack heard Bra'tac's voice say breaking him out of his musings.  The Jaffa was standing in the doorway looking at him.

"No, of course not Bra'tac. Come on in," Jack said to the man watching as he walked in and sat down.

"You looked like you need someone to talk to," Bra'tac said his eyes boring into Jack.

"Well, I wouldn't want to bore you," Jack replied.

"There is very little that bores me general," Bra'tac said.  "Even I know when it is time to talk with someone else."

Jack rubbed his eyes with his hand as he thought about what he could say to Bra'tac.  "Its just that whenever Kinsey shows up something Earth shaking comes along.  I've got a base full of Jaffa, which he doesn't like, a mysterious ship found in the desert, and what appears to be a new deadly enemy.  What could be wrong," he said with a shrug.

"What indeed," Bra'tac said with the same shrug.

"I hate it when you do that," Jack said looking at Bra'tac.

"Do what," Bra'tac replied with a straight face.

"Challenge me to think outside the lines," Jack replied as he leaned back into his chair.  "Its not always there you know."

"No, that is where you are wrong, sometimes it’s just harder, or easier to see," Bra'tac replied.

"Great, now I'm confused," Jack said not sure what the man meant.

"Sometimes we make things more complex than it is," Bra'tac said.  "I have a feeling that all the pieces are here, you just have to put them together," with that he got up and excused himself and left the room.

"How did you do it general," Jack said thinking about Hammond and the command decisions he had made over the years.  He thought about what Bra'tac had said and realized that the pieces were there, the ship, the Jaffa, and the Colonials, but he had a couple of obstacles, the major one was Kinsey.

Ares walked over to where his siblings were waiting.  There had been a lot of discussion with the Tau'ri and there was little being done.  He was about to burst from the lack of action that they were showing.  Apollo had asked him to come and discuss it with the others so they could come to an agreement.  After that they would tell the others of their decision.

Walking into the tent he noticed that Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite and Athena were all there.  He doubted that Aphrodite would contribute to the conversation but Athena would.  Even though she was not his sister he considered her part of their family.  She also was very wise looking at both sides of things.

"Glad to see all of you here," Ares said.

"Of course we would, I wanted us to provide a united front when we head back to Earth and talk with the Tau'ri," Apollo replied.

"I'm not sure how willing the Tau'ri will be to cooperate with us after having visited their homeworld," Ares said as he remember hearing about their current political situation.

"The question then is are there enough on our side to gain some cooperation or not," Athena asked having heard most of what had happened.

"I have a feeling that the general is on our side, their president I'm not sure about though.  He might be, but if their vice-president is any indication then he might not be," Ares replied.

"We need to make them aware of the severity of the situation," Apollo said.

"I'm not sure we can," Ares said.  "From what I gather it seems that in their war with the Gou'ald they've been in critical situations before and nothing has been done."

"Then perhaps we need to make sure we get control of the Galactica," Artemis said.

"And how do you propose that," Athena asked.

"They control the ship along with a group called the Asgard who are the most advanced race I've seen besides the Cylons," Ares said to them.

"Hold on, how is a ship several thousand years old supposed to help us now.  Its systems must be outdated," Apollo said reasonable.  "I know that many of us have heard the story that during the darkest time the Galactica will rise again, but its technology is ancient."

"Apollo, brother, I saw the technology, it will work," Ares said.  "The vipers are real, the chips is real.  It will help us."

"I don't know about this, it seems like a lot of work for an ancient warship," Apollo said.

"A full Battlestar was the most advanced, powerful combat warship that humankind had ever built, and remains so to this day," Ares said to his brother.  "Don't be so quick to dismiss it."

"Alright, how do you suggest we accomplish such a mission," Apollo said.

"Well," Artemis said as she thought about it.  "We have one advantage," she said casting a glance over to where Aphrodite was standing.  "We have someone who can read the ancient language."

General Hammond walked across the bridge of the Galactica over to where Erin Hill was sitting looking into a computer monitor.  She was studying it quite carefully trying to figure out what it was saying.  She had been able to decipher a little bit more even without the help of Daniel Jackson or Samantha Carter.  She was proving her worth to the team for which Hammond was grateful for.

Erin looked up as the general approached her.  He had a look on his face that she was not sure she liked.  She had learned to read expressions on people's faces when she had begun to play poker in college.  Her size and appearance made her appear like easy prey but she was very good.  Right now she was sure that the general was not in a good mood.

"Hello General Hammond," she said politely to the man.  She liked him as he had a quality that make him want to like him.

"Doctor Hill, I got a communications from General O'Niell about what was going on.  It seems that one of our old enemies is making waves again over this ship," he told her.  He did not reveal that it was the current Vice-President of the United States.

"Should I be concerned about it," she asked wondering why he would be telling her this.  She had no contact with anyone on Earth at the moment and there was no good way to reach the ship.

"I don't know.  They had ways of reaching certain people and making their lives a bit difficult," he told her.

"Well, communications here is quite difficult so I doubt that they would be able to reach me here," Erin replied thoughtfully.

"I know, but I just wanted you to be aware of what was going on," he said.  "I know how they can be."

"I'll keep my eye out then," Erin replied not sure she like this turn of events.  It sounded like she was getting into something political again.  She had hoped that this would not be a political issue seeing how big of find it was.  Now she was learning that she was wrong.  Politics was everywhere.

"Good, have you found out anything," he asked curious about if she had found anything or not.

"Nothing too much, a personal diary of what appears to be the commander of the ship.  It's actually quite fascinating, if only I could read more of it," she replied.  "It seems that the commander was quite a man.  He felt for everyone in the fleet."

"Sounds like a good commander," Hammond said.  He knew what type of person would make a good commander or not.  He had made a lot of hard command decisions that he did not like and knew were not going to be popular.  But that is what made a commander different from everyone else.  They made the hard decisions that would effect everyone and felt the effects if even one person was killed because of it.

"There is so much here that I don't understand it would take me a lifetime to full understand it all," Erin said pushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear only to have it fall back into her face.  It was a losing battle she had with her hair.

"We've got time right now doctor," Hammond replied but he was not sure how much longer they had.  He felt a bit uneasy about everything that was going on.  He was sure that Vice President Kinser would try something soon.  He would almost feel better if the man tried something soon instead of waiting.  "Is there anything else that you can tell me about this ship?"

"Not much, only that there seems to be an extensive database of ships and ship types.  A lot of them are very strange looking," Erin replied turning back to the screen.  A few keystrokes later she had a ship on the screen.  "This apparently is a diagram of the enemy capital ships when the Galactica was fighting the Cylons."

Hammond glanced at the screen and noticed what appeared to be two saucers on top of each other.  It did not look that impressive to him.  He did not understand any of the language that was written beside it so he had no idea as to the scale of the ship.

"These ships from what I can gather are equivalent to the Galactica in size and firepower," Erin told him.

Jack watched as the group of Colonials walked through the gate and back onto Earth soil.  It was a bit strange that they seemed to get along so well.  The one thing that he had learned was that the Colonials were now without a home planet.  The other thing that made him think was the fact that they had been at war with the Cylons for so long.  Jack could only hope they were wrong about the threat that the Cylons did pose to the universe.

The meeting with Jacob seemed to confirm what they had told him though.  And it seemed that a Gou'ald, Thoth, had already uncounted the Cylons.  The results seemed to indicate that the Gou'ald had lost in his battle against the Cylons.  If a system lord had been wiped out easily then he wondered what type of enemy they were really up against.

"Ares," Jack said to the dark haired man who seemed to be one of the leaders of the Colonials.  So far he had not seen an organized government from them and wondered about that.

"General O'Neill," Ares replied as he noticed Bra'tac standing there with him.  Ares was not sure about the man just yet.

"Welcome back Ares," Jack said turning to Bra'tac.  "Bra'tac, this is Apollo, Artemis and Athena."

"A pleasure," Bra'tac replied with a nod of his head in their direction.  He was intrigued by what was going on with this new group.  He had some time on his hands as Stargate Command still had not found an adequate planet to resettle in.  He also had the feeling that whoever had attacked them might be the Cylons even though he had no proof.  "Teal'c."

"Master Bra'tac," Teal'c said in acknowledgment.  He had heard about what had happened to the Jaffa base.  There was indications that it had not been done by the Gou'ald either.

"Teal'c," Bra'tac said acknowledging one of his friends.  He did not see much of him anymore but with the war against the Gou'ald they needed all the allies they could find.  He was disappointed to learn that the alliance between the To'kra and the Tau'ri had fallen through.  They would have made a formidable force but perhaps in time they would learn that only together could they defeat the Gou'ald.  It was a bit strange that only the Tau'ri seemed to have learned this lesson.

He turned his attention back to the Colonials who had come though the gate as well.  There were many things about this new group that he wished to know.  Much like he had to learn about the Tau'ri so too he had to learn about the Colonials.

"I brought some others to help with the Galactica.  I figure that the quicker we can get the ship operational the better our chances of stopping the Cylons," Ares said.

"Of course," Jack replied.

"Perhaps we should make our way to the Galactica," Apollo said.

"Yes I too would like to see this Galactica," Bra'tac replied having only seen the pictures and heard about it.  It was something he wanted to see for himself.

"Well then this way," Jack said.

Thor was not pleased with the way the meeting had gone.  His contemporaries were suggesting that they do something that he was not comfortable with.  The humans were his friends and now he was being told by the council that he was to remove them from the ship and take it.  Something did not sit right with him on this.  The other thing that made him uneasy was the fact that they did not seem concerned with the events in the galaxy.  If what they had said was true then even the Asguard were in danger.

The council was did not even want to send a scout ship to investigate what was going on.  In a way he felt that the others on the council seemed a bit arrogant in their attitudes.  The war against the replicaters did not seem to change their views on other life forms.  This new threat he felt was a challenge even for them.

Thor beamed over to the large warship that had been found on Earth.  Now all he had to do was convince the humans that this was for their own good.  He had the feeling that this would not go over well.  He knew that it would strain the relationship he had with them.  He like Hammond a lot as the human seemed to be more understanding and open than others.  Now all he had to do was find him.  He set out for the bridge as that would more than likely have at least one human who could tell him where Hammond was.

Walking onto the bridge he was startled to see several humans on the ship.  He thought that there was only a few, but here was Dr. Erin along with a red haired woman and a blonde haired man.  They appeared to be working with Erin so he walked up to them to see what was going on.

"Doctor Erin," Thor said watching as three heads turned around to see who was talking.

"Thor, I didn't realize that you were back on the ship," Erin replied.  "Thor, my I introduce to you Apollo and his sister Aphrodite.  Apollo, Aphrodite this is Thor."

Thor could not remember the blonde haired man but he did recognize Aphrodite now.  Both Thor and Apollo seemed to size each other up briefly before Apollo smiled at Thor.

"Glad to meet you Thor," Apollo said.

"As I am," Thor replied.  "Doctor, do you know where General Hammond is?"

"I believe that he down on the landing bay with the others," Erin replied.

"Thank you," Thor replied as he left the bridge and headed down to the hanger.

Apollo turned back to his work after the small alien, Thor, had left the bridge.  His race was an unknown.  The one thing that seemed to be apparent was they did not know the language that everything on the ship was written in.  Though the few scientists was going to make it harder to do what needed to be done.

Filing thought the systems he was pleased to see that everything seemed to be in working order.  There were few systems that were not responding and Apollo knew that with a bit of work they would be operational again.  A quick glance over to where his sister was working and then over to where Erin was.  So far no one knew what they were doing yet.

He exchanged a glance with Aphrodite who nodded her head which indicated that she was working on part of the operation.  She had the most difficult task of everyone only because she had the most knowledge of the language.  He could only hope they had enough time.

"Have you found anything important," Erin asked as she walked over to where Apollo was.

"So far it looks like most systems survived intact, from what I can tell," he said with a shrug indicating what he thought of his skills to her.

"Well, its more than what I've been able to accomplish that's for sure," Erin replied.  "With your help we should be able to gain more information about the ship and its history than if I was working alone.  I just want to say thanks for helping me out with this."

Ares shared a look with Aphrodite as they listened to what Erin was saying.  Both of them knew what the other was thinking.  There was something that they were about to do that would probably take away any trust that had developed between the two peoples.

"Its our pleasure for helping out," Ares replied.  "And it gives us more of our past as well."

"I'm going to get something to drink, do either of you want anything," Erin asked.  She had been at work for several hours now and was stretching her legs and had decided on a bathroom break.  Both of her companions nodded their head no and she walked off the bridge.

Ares watched as Erin walked off the bridge then quickly walked over to another console and went to work quickly.  He was not sure how long he had and spared a brief glance over at Aphrodite who had switched as well and was working hard.  It did not take long until they had finished and returned to their normal spots well before Erin returned with a glass of water.

Erin noted that the two still seemed busy at work as she sat down where she had been working.  Pulling out her pen she began back to work hoping to decphire something that was in the ships computers.

General Hammond was standing in the middle of one of the large hangers along with Apollo, Athena and Artemis.  The three of them had been looking over the craft in the hanger.  It was actually quite advanced to him compared to what they had been able to build.  The weapon technology was highly advanced as it had two laser pulsar attached to each fighter.  They had gone over to where the fighters and noticed that most seemed to be in good condition still for being so old.  The ship itself had survived the burial of such a long time that it boggled the mind.

Hammond was looking at one of the vipers again up close when Thor came walking into the hanger.  The small alien walked right on over to where he was standing.  There was something about the look that Thor had that made Hammond a bit uncomfortable.

"Thor, what's wrong," Hammond asked having learned to read the aliens a bit.  They were hard to read but having been around several of them recently he had learned a bit about their facial features.

"I am sorry general," Thor said reinforcing what Hammond was already thinking.  "But the council has already decided this."

"Decided what," Hammond asked facing Thor completely.  Apollo, Athena and Artemis also turned from what they were doing to face the small alien.  They could tell that something was going on from the way Hammond was standing.

"They feel that the ship is too advanced to leave in the hands of the humans," Thor said not liking what he was saying.

"You mean they don't trust us yet with this technology," Hammond said bluntly.

"It was not my decision general," Thor said and Hammond could tell that the small alien was telling the truth.  "They feel it would be dangerous, and there is the possibility that it could fall into the hands of Gou'ald.  If that happened then it would change the power structure of the galaxy."

"The Asgard have no claims over the Galactica," Apollo said walking over to where the two were talking.  "Humans built this ship and it is needed now more than ever."

"The council does not think that the Cylons pose a great threat to the galaxy," Thor said.

"Then they are blind," Apollo replied.  "They will find you and destroy you."

"I did not agree with the council, but they have entrusted me to carry out their orders," Thor replied.

Hammond was just about to argue when he found himself back on board Thor's ship along with all the others.  It was a strange experience and he knew what had happened right away.  Next to him was Erin and the other that had been on the bridge.  Hammond turned in time to see Thor appear.

"Thor, you know that this isn't right," Hammond told him trying to talk with who he thought was a friend.

"This warship is much too advanced to be left in the hands of primitive cultures," another voice said from the other side of the room.  They glanced around and noticed another Asguard standing there.  "We will send you back home and do not ask about the ship again," he said then turned around and left the room.

"I see politics hasn't changed," Hammond said to Thor.

"No, for all of our advances politics seems to have stayed the same," Thor replied.  "I will send you back my friend, if I may still call you that."

"To be honest this will strain our relationship, but personally you will always be a friend," Hammond said.  He had resigned himself to this knowing that at the moment there was little he could do.  Seconds later they found themselves back at Stargate command in front of a startled Jack.

"Hello General," Jack said.  "Problem?"

"It seems that the Asguard have decided that we are too primitive to study the Galactica," Hammond replied as Erin looked around not having seen Stargate command before.

"That's just wonderful," Jack said as he slammed a folder down.  "First Kinsey and now the Asguard."

"Kinsey, what's he got to do with this," Hammond asked.

"This," he said showing him a file.  The colonials with them turned pale at the sight.

"Cylons," Ares said with a growl.

"Where was this taken," Hammond asked.

"It seems that our friend is talking with the enemy," Jack said.  "I have the feeling that we will need the Galactica and soon.  Is there any way we can get it back, maybe use the Prometheus?"

"No, we could never get close enough in time before the Asguard saw us," Hammond replied.

"What, perhaps if would you do if the Galactica was not there," Ares said slowly as he thought about everything.

"What do you mean, not there," Jack said raising an eyebrow at him.

"Let's just say that the Asguard are in for a surprise," Apollo said.

"Good work Thor," one of the members of the Asguard council said to him.  "Technology that advanced would have destroyed their civilization."

"Have scout ships been sent to investigate the human reports and see if they are true," Thor asked.

"It is nothing more than the replicators," the councilmember replied.  "They pose no threat to us anymore."

"And if they are not the Replicators," Thor asked trying to press the issue.

"It can only be the replicators, quite worrying Thor," the council member said.

Monitors started to go off on the other side of the ship bringing both of their attention to the screens.  Thor noticed that there was an increasing surge of energy to the engines of the Galactica.  There were reports on board the ship that systems were starting up without warning.  As they watched the ship suddenly jumped beyond light speed and disappeared.

"What happened," the council member asked.

"I do not know," Thor replied but had figured that the Colonials had programmed the ship before they had been taken off the ship.  If what the humans had said then the galaxy still stood a chance.
