Chapter 1
A small representative's ship makes its way down to Coruscant's surface. Looking at the surface of the planet from space there are still several areas that have not been touched by the massive construction that was going on. The plan is to make the planet one large city because of its location in the galaxy.
The previous inhabitants of the planet had long since died off, the local legend said that they were all killed in a devastating war a long time ago. The organizers of the newly proposed government wanted a place for all races to meet so there would not be any favoritism shown.
The ship made its way down to the newly completed docking area where several other ships had already landed and was waiting for other ships to show up.
"Ambassador He'mor, there is a message for you, shall I put it through?" The pilot told his passenger.
"Yes captain, thank you." He'mor replied and waited patiently as the screen came to life.
"Ambassador He'mor I'm so delighted you could make it." Came the greeting. "I was wondering if you would even come."
"There's no way I could miss this, only the most important meeting in the galaxy." He'mor replied. "But you look a bit tired my friend, are you feeling alright?"
"Yes, I just didn't sleep well last night, had some nightmares, that's all." The caller replied.
"Okay, I'll meet with you later then." He'mor said signing off and watched as the ship made a touchdown on the platform.
A well-dressed middle-aged representative of the local Senate walked purposefully towards his quarters. He was dressed in fine clothes and walked with confidence in his stride
His robe was made from the finest materials in the galaxy. He was a man who was well respected in the entire universe, more by his race than anything else. He was an Undarian, an ancient race who strove for peace and balance in the universe. He was taller than most people and knew of many races. Most also knew of them and their peaceful ways, it was the main reason that so many races were willing to meet here on Coruscant.
He walked toward a meeting site that would hopefully shed some light on his mysterious contact. So far his contact had not asked for much, but he was sure that it would change after this meeting.
He thought that the entire way he had been contacted was strange. This person calling himself Lord Dugous had left a mysterious message to him. A strange voice it was as well, it seem to compel him to this path.
He arrived at his destination and was about to knock when the door opened.
"I've been expecting you." The voice from inside the room said sounding like the Lord Dugous that had left the message.
He looked inside the room and noticed that it was very dark inside. The voice matched the one on the message and he cautiously walked inside the room jumping a little bit when the door slammed shut.
"We have enemies in our midst." The voice of Lord Dugous said and the ambassador wondered what he meant by that.
"I don't understand, it has many enemies, most are against the proposed government." He replied.
"No, I'm talking about a much worse enemy, one that will destroy this new republic from the inside with poison." Lord Dugous said. "They have special powers and can read minds, that is why I hide in the dark."
"Then how do we stop them?" He asked the person called Lord Dugous.
"I have a plan."
The young man walked slowly down the street of where he lived. He had no real friends and no real family that was still alive. The people that did know him did not go out of their way to talk to him. He was a loner all the way, but even more so was what was said behind his back.
People said that he was a freak of nature, an abomination. He could do incredible things, and feats that most normal people could not do. If he concentrated long enough he could run faster, jump further and endure more than any known person.
He also found out that if he thought about it he could read minds, not specific thoughts, but feelings. That was something he always had, even when he was a kid in school.
He learned to hide his powers from everyone because they feared what he could do. He was not sure but he felt that if they found out the true extent of his powers then those who were in power would kill him.
The local government was trying to establish a strong relationship with other races for a stronger government. It was a radical idea that many in the local population did not consider to be practical.
He saw that it was to become an important part of the universe, and that it would rise, then fall in darkness then rise again when the darkness fell again, but it would take a long time for it to become established at all, and the founding baby steps would be taken here and now. He did, however, see a darkness clouding the near future unless something was done soon.
The man never saw the eyes that were watching him, but he felt them nevertheless. It made the hair on the back of his neck stand up on end and he quickened his step. He turned into an alley way and felt that the person pressuring him was not fooled, but he just wanted an area that was out of sight of the public to deal with the person.
As he was about to turn around his instincts yelled at him to duck, which he did. A laser blast went over his head and impacted against some trash further down the alleyway. He turned around to see a cloaked person standing there with a blaster taking aim for another shot that he avoided again.
Mustering up some of that incredible power that he had he threw an invisible ball of energy towards the man, who was knocked off his feet by the blast. It allowed him to escape into the alleyways.
Up on the rooftop red-rimmed green eyes had seen everything. He would have to report back with what he had seen, this person could pose a threat to their plans.
Wedge Organza walked along the palace grounds. He was in his mid-twenties and was already showing signs that he would be a great leader. He had striking good looks and black hair that would seem untamable to some, but he managed to keep it under control. His planet Alderaan had received a message from several other races about a new Galactic Council, the last one held over a hundred years ago failed miserably, but Wedge had a good feeling about this one.
"So, what do you say about this?" His captain of the guard Petra Ligta asked as he approached his leader.
"Ah, Petra, I've got a good feeling about all of this." Wedge said turning towards his friend. "I think that this time we can make it work, it won't be easy, but those things that are worth it are never easy."
Petra studied his friend and leader for a second. Wedge was always full of adventure and could usually sense how things could be, but sometimes he was not very realistic.
"Your majesty, a message has just arrived." A runner said a bit out of breath handing the message over to Petra.
"I think that this might change your mind!" Petra said handing the message over to Wedge. "It looks like they weren't kidding like we first thought."
"I'm still going to Coruscant, and this only proves that I must go." Wedge said in a stubborn attitude that Petra knew all to well.
"I know, but this does make my job a bit more difficult, you do understand that?" Petra said not wanting to sound to harsh, but needing to get his point across.
"Okay, from the time we leave Alderaan to the time we arrive back here I'll follow your orders, how's that?" Wedge said and they both knew that it was as close to a promise that they would get.
"Sounds fair to me your majesty." Petra said giving Wedge a bow. "I'll go and start making the arrangement right away."
Petra got two steps away before he was blown back into Wedge by an explosion in the palace. There were several more explosions before there was calm again.
The force of the first blast had thrown Petra backwards and knocked both men off their feet. They landed about ten feet from where they had been standing with Petra on top of his ruler. Dirt and debris covered all of the area surrounding the palace and about half of the palace was now destroyed. Wedge surveyed the damage as he looked around and noticed that several places around the palace had also been hit by the indication of smoke that was now rising from the areas that were hit.
"Are you okay?" Petra asked giving Wedge a quick look over to see if he could see any wounds on the man.
"I'm okay Petra, but you should go to the infirmary, looks like a nasty gash on the top of you head there." Wedge said and watched Petra.
Petra wiped his brow and noticed that he was indeed bleeding. As he noticed it there was an accompanying pain that made itself known.
"Damn." Petra said glancing around for someone from the guard unit. "YOU, COME HERE!" He shouted to a guard that was looking around.
"Yes sir!" The guard said after running over to where they were standing.
"Watch the King here, I'm going to see what happened." Petra said to the young man watching as he said that he understood. Petra then walked off toward what was left of the palace to see if there was a working communications devise.
Wedge watched stunned as the fire control teams go to work to put out the fires that had been started. He had wondered about the death threats that he had been receiving and how viable they were. This seemed to be aimed at him, but at the moment he was not to sure about it. He had been receiving threats ever since he had decided to go to Coruscant and see if this new Republic was worth the effort. It seemed to him that someone was going through a tremendous amount of effort to stop him, so he figured that he must be doing something right. He was now really glad that Petra had talked him into having his wife and daughter leave the palace and go on a vacation to an undisclosed location, otherwise he would have been very concerned about their safety.
Wedge was about to walk toward the palace when the young guard that Petra had assigned stepped in front of him to prevent him from going toward the area.
"My Lord, you should wait, they are still working to control the fires, and the commander will be back to let us know what happened." He said making sure that Wedge stayed in front of him.
"Yes, I suppose that you're right, as much as I don't like it." Wedge said acknowledging what the guard said.
"You know that I'm usually right majesty." Petra said returning to where the two men were looking quite grim.
"What's wrong my friend?" Wedge asked seeing Petra's face.
"This attack was not a random event, someone was trying to get you this time." Petra said in total seriousness. "Our scanners indicated that two warships of unknown origin hyperspaced into our system, fired several shots that were directed at the palace and government buildings and quickly left again."
Wedge had to agree that this was no random attack, they had hit the two places that he was most likely to be at.
"I think that you're right about this, but this meeting is too important for me not to attend." Wedge told his friend. "I guess we use extreme caution from here on out."
"I know, that your right, but as your security officer I'm going to worry about it." Petra told him.
"And you'll do a fine job at it." Wedge said giving his officer a pat on the back and heading toward what remained of the palace. "I also want to thank you for being so stubborn about Natile and Ame leaving the palace."
"I'm just glad that I was able to." Petra replied.
"Report my young apprentice." The cold voice said.
"He will be trouble my lord, his powers continue to grow, and they may already rival mine my lord." He replied
"Then it's time for more drastic measures, you will be receiving help, he will either be with us or wiped out." The voice said and the transmission ended.
Ri-Jun-Atda had managed to get inside his home without any further incidents. He breathed a sigh of relief at that fact and went to get himself something to eat from his pantry. There was something different about the way the person had attacked him today, like they knew exactly who he was and maybe even what he was capable of.
There was also something else that he could not put any words to, but that something big was about to happen. He was also afraid that he would be in the middle of it.
Ri-Jun sat down at the table with some food in his hand and decided that he would think about the coming events. Sometimes if he meditated long and concentrated hard enough some events were revealed to him.
After finishing off the light snack he had fixed for himself he went over to a small area that had nothing but a cushioned foot rest that was large enough for him to sit on. It was here that he would meditate looking for answers that he had questions to. He would also just meditate to allow himself to escape from all of the events that were going on in his head. Sometimes he could actually see things, or feel that someone he knew was in trouble. He had learned from an early age not to say anything because people tended to look at him with distrust when he told them about it.
This would be the first time that he would be concentrating on his life. Someone wanted him either out of the way or dead and he did not know who. He could not recall anyone that he had made enemies with lately or anyone who hated him enough to have him killed. Everyone who had learned about his powers had told him never to talk to him again, and he stayed away from them if he could.
Wedge tried to stretch his feet for about the millionth time since the flight began. He was traveling on board a small transport ship carrying supplies to Coruscant while a double of him traveled aboard the royal transport. Petra was flying escort for the decoy and Wedge had one guard with him also disguised as a peasant as well.
"How much longer till we are there?" Wedge grumbled to the guard who had been hand picked by Petra.
"We'll be there in about an hour sire." The guard replied knowing that Wedge was uncomfortable, not that he could blame him. The guard's feet felt like they were going to fall off by the inactivity of just sitting there. Unfortunately the transport was too small for any type of movement aside from stretching which they did quite often.
An hour later, which seemed to be to long for the two men they finally arrived at their destination on Coruscant and were greeted by a grim faced Petra.
"What's wrong Petra?" Wedge asked upon seeing his friend's face.
"It was a flawless flight until we got here, then a ship attacked before we could respond and quickly hypered out of the system." Petra said. "Someone defiantly doesn't want you here and I still don't have any answers as to who would do this."
"That's disturbing, let's get out of here quickly, I'll hide at a local hotel, would that be a good idea?" Wedge said.
"Sounds good for now, then after you are in the council meeting for the first time we can use one of the security buildings." Petra stated and told the guard to stay with Wedge until further notice, while he did some investigating. Everyone on the planet knew that he would be staying for a while so he would not attract any more attention to himself if he went to a hotel a couple of times, or this spaceport.
"I suggest we get moving before anyone becomes suspicious of us." The guard said logically to the other two men.
"Here, go to this hotel, they had clean rooms and people will not bother you." Petra said handing a note to the guard who nodded his head and the two men took off.
Ri-Jun had never been this deep or long in a meditation before with getting any results. He had been at it for several hours without even a glimpse of a 'vision' as he called it.
He decided to give it a rest for a bit and go grab a bite to eat a the local restaurant who's owner he knew and was the only person who had found out about his power and not asked him to leave. Ri-Jun had saved the man's life and had stuck by Ri-Jun ever since.
"Ri-Jun-Aldi, its been too long." The small man behind the counter said as he noticed Ri-Jun walk into his establishment.
"Hello Kinsu, how's business doing?" Ri-Jun replied welcoming the friendly voice, something that had been missing in his life.
"Good, very good, but you don't look so good, come on and tell old Kin about it." Kinsu said motioning Ri-Jun to the back of the room.
"Well, it hasn't been good." Ri-Jun said to his friend as they sat down in the back room with some food. "Someone is trying to kill me, and I can't think of anyone, has there been any mention of me in here within the past week or so?" Ri-Jun asked his only friend.
"No, can't think of anyone who has asked about you." Kinsu said thinking about it for a few minutes. "You are not in any trouble, are you?" He asked concern showing through.
"Nothing I can't handle, yet!" Ri-Jun replied.
"If you ever need help you can come to me, We Tiltirians keep our life debts." Kinsu told him.
"Thanks, but I think that I've wasted enough of your time." Ri-Jun said starting to stand when a vision overwhelmed him and he slumped to the floor.
Petra read the report again and still could not believe what he had read. The ship had identical marking to one of the ones that had attacked the palace back at Alderaan.
He had gotten a better look at the ship when it had attacked the royal liner and he could not place the ship. It was not like anything he had ever seen before. It was saucer shaped with panels on either side that formed a triangle. The ship was highly maneuverable and had a good amount of firepower. The whole attack had lasted less than a couple of minutes.
What disturbed Petra even more was the fact that they had kept the information about the arrival a secret. This meant that there was someone working on the inside and someone that he could not trust. He mentally reviewed the list of those who knew about the arrival time then cross-checked it with those far who knew about the freighter transport.
Petra got up to get something to write the information down on, as the list was too big for him to carefully keep in his head. He quickly wrote down those that he knew were told about the alternate route taken by Wedge. The list consisted only of his most trusted advisors and a few guards that were hand picked for their loyalty. The guards would not have known when the yacht was to arrive so they were eliminated from the list. Next he listed those who knew about yacht's arrival time and compared it with those who did not, and those who knew about the freighter. When he was done he had a list of suspects of about twenty people, all who were suppose to be trusted by the government. Petra figured that at least one of these men leaked the information or was tricked into telling the time. He checked to see if anyone was here on Coruscant.
There was just one, a member of a rival family. He would have the motive, and he was against this meeting from the beginning, that's where he would begin his investigation.
The large meeting room was filled with delegates that were making a lot of noise. They were endlessly debating trade, boundaries and everything else that went with it. There was also a lot of talk about security and how this new government would protect itself. The latest buzz was of the assignation of the king of Alderaan while on approach for landing when a mysterious craft suddenly attacked it.
"Delegates, please silence, please." The Unidarian was yelling to get his voice over the voices and arguments going on.
"There has been rising concern over safety for the delegates, as one of our own has been killed." The Unidarian said to the gathered crowd. "I to have some concerns so my government has sought out a group to provide security and investigate the death of the delegate. I present to you Lord Dugous." He said stepping aside to allow a man appear.
The man wore a cloak that began red at the shoulders and faded to black at his feet. His outfit was a simple tunic that was a black color and underneath the tunic was a shirt that was a blood red color. His face was more rounded and his eyes were yellow rimmed with red. His skin color was pale and his hair a deep red color as well. His lips seemed to curl into a smile as he looked out into the gathered delegates.
"Thank you my Unidarian friend." The man said. "My name is Lord Dugous, and as it is my duty to protect you all, I must ask you all to do something for me." He said and the delegates looked around at each other wondering what he would ask for. "It is my belief that there is a new group, striving to take over this meeting so they can rule the universe, they can see the future, and are incredible strong. They are magicians of incredible power who need to be wiped out." Lord Dugous said watching those who agreed with him. "My sources point to one of these men who were able to read the minds of the security of those who were to protect the King of Alderaan."
His statement started a buzz in the room and everyone was talking at once. They had all heard of someone who had these abilities, but until now they never thought of them as a threat, but it made sense to many of them. A person who could read minds was a dangerous enemy. They had also heard that someone had killed the ambassador from Alderaan.
"How can you fight them if they are able to read minds?" One delegate asked and many around him wondered the same thing.
"There influence only works on the weak minded, I hire only those with strong minds who can withstand this force that they can do." Lord Dugous said.
It did not take long for most of them to agree with Lord Dugous and those with any form of this power were to be captured or killed, it did not matter.
"I don't agree with you!" One voice rang out through the clutter of noise causing everyone to turn until they could see who it was.
"You could be next ambassador." Lord Dugous said to the man.
"And I would have to say that you have poor security to allow a ship to destroy my yacht without even a response from you and your security." The man replied back.
"Who do you think you are?"
"Wedge Organa." The man replied as the council room got real quiet. Everyone thought that the man was dead, killed while his ship approached the planet.
"According to my reports you are dead." Lord Dugous replied silently fuming inside.
"I came a different way, there was a decoy on board the yacht." Wedge said having seen a look of surprise on everyone's face.
"Then you should be real grateful that you are alive and would really want these extremists to be destroyed." One ambassador said and there was a murmur of approval for the statement.
"Violence is not the way." Wedge tried to say over the voices.
"We've taken a vote already, the course of action will continue." The Unidarian said.
"I will not go along with it, this is a council to try to begin a government, not a ruling body." Wedge said.
"Many of us already have contacted our governments to begin this process, and I have always disliked those mind readers." Another ambassador said. Wedge could see that he could not fight this battle here, yet.
