Hundreds of years ago the universe erupted into civil war. Humans fought each other over control of their empire. On one side was the current government who inflicted cruelties on its own people and fought with the other races. The rebels with the help of several other races fought back.

During the war the government experimented on people changing their DNA. They were able to create a group of super warriors which they called Mega-sons. It was a combination of two people actually.

One person made up the armor, called an armor-son, and another person controlled the combat called an alpha-son. The strength of the Mega-son depended on the power of the two combining. Two powerful people would make a powerful Mega-son.

When the government first introduced the Mega-sons they quickly changed the course of power in the war. The rebels sensing that they would fail unless they changed their tactics got their spies into the lab of the government. Using volunteers they created their own Mega-sons.

The war lasted years until finally a powerful Mega-son emerged on the battlefield and changed the fortunes of the rebellion. From that battle on the rebels gained the upper hand and defeated the government.

Those who had been in the old government were banished from known space forever. Hundreds of transports left that day and they had never been heard from again, at least until the attack came.

They returned as the Imperium, and their sole purpose was to regain their seat of power that they had lost so long ago.

Eyes glanced up as they realized the Imperium Soldiers were headed to their hideout. They all knew who was on board the shuttle, a mixture of Alpha-sons and Armor-sons. They were the cream of the Imperium Army and very deadly.

Everyone knew that when an Alpha-son and a Armor-son merged the result was a very dangerous soldier called an Mega-son. The Armor-son would morph into armor and weapons of the Mega-son. The Alpha-son would be the one controlling their movements and was the limiting factor of how quickly the Mega-son moved.

How powerful the Mega-son was resulted in how well the Alpha-son and Armor-son merged and how powerful they were separate. Each group had a listing, Alpha-sons were listed in three different categories, Alpha 1, 2, or 3, with one being the most powerful. Armor-sons were categorized by letters, A-F, with F being the lowest.

Alpha-1s were usually combined with Armor-As to make the most powerful Mega-sons. They were used only for special purposes. The most common Mega-sons were made of Alpha-3s and Armor-Ds or Fs.

They watched as the shuttle made its descent. They rushed about readying themselves for battle. They had a few Alpha-sons and Armor-sons, but not enough to defeat the incoming Imperium troops. They outnumbered the rebels by about ten to one. The rebels also realized that there were probably at least one or two groups of the higher ranking Mega-sons.

"Begin preparations for a retreat," came the call from a tall dark haired woman. She glanced over to a man standing near by who nodded his head.

"All Alpha-sons and Armor-sons report to the front," he yelled out. A group raced out to the clearing and paired up. The man walked over to the tall woman and stood next to her waiting for her next orders. She was the ranking rebel official and her orders were to be obeyed.

"All government officials are to be protected at all costs," the woman said not having to say anything else. They all knew that if the rebel government fell then all hopes of destroying the Imperium was lost.

The Imperium was a group from outside the Known Sphere. They said that they were a long lost group that had ruled the galaxy hundreds of years ago and now they were back to regain their control. Several people had dug into their history and found a long lost story about a corrupt political government that had been overthrown. As punishment the group that had survived was outcast and was to never return to the Known Sphere.

"Well Rachel, what do you think," the man beside her said as he watched the shuttle come down.

Rachel pushed a lock of black hair out of her face before replying. "It doesn't look good. Have Charlie send a report that the official here may not make it out," she said watching him head off toward the communications room then return.

Rachel noticed that his mood was sullen. She could not blame him, they were about to be outnumbered ten to one and they would probably lose most of their Mega-sons in this battle. She tried to think of a way to prevent that from happening.

"Ben, we are only to do a delaying action, when the time is right we are to retreat as well," Rachel said.

"I'll inform the others to be watching you," he said then carried out her orders.

Rachel continued to watch the shuttle and had to wonder what type of Omegas they would be facing. She had fought against a Alpha-1, Zeta-A pairing and barely lived to survive, unfortunately her Zeta at the time died in the battle. Ben came running back waiting for her order.

"All groups combine," Rachel said as she closed her eyes to wait for the transformation to be complete. Rachel could feel the rush of power coming from their combination as the power flowed through her. It was an intoxicating feeling to have that much power under her command, but she knew that she would need ever bit of it to delay the enemy today.

To an outsider the combination process was a bright flash of light. After the light faded instead of two people there was one. Residue energy waves could be seen coming off the person; the intensity would be determined by how powerful the pairing was.

Rachel stood covered in what could only be described as liquid metal, and it shimmered and moved in the light. She was covered in a grey color metal this time. Glancing around she noticed the others were also ready. Rachel concentrated on her energy and using it was able to fly. It had taken her a while to learn but now it was second nature to her.

"All groups, take position at the perimeter," Rachel said as she watched the shuttle touchdown, the battle was about to begin.

Velvet grimaced as she felt the shuttle jump a but as it came to a halt and the familiar bump of it landing. It meant that they had arrived at their destination and that she would be needed for action. That was something she hated with a passion.

Velvet had been a soldier of the Imperium all of her life, but she did not believe in their ways. She had known them to be false since she was a child. Her mother had told her stories about everything and she realized later in life that her mother was telling her how corrupt and evil the Imperium government had become with saying anything directly. That had led to the government taking Velvet away from her mother. The government told her that her mother was not feeling well, but she knew better now. The Imperium had killed her.

Velvet was an Armor-son, a low class one at that. Her current Alpha-son was an Alpha-2, and he was not a likable person. The Alpha-son glanced down at her and smiled something he normally did when combat was nearby.

Velvet suppressed the inward shudder and prepared herself for what was about to happen. The order to move out was given and the emptied out of the shuttle. Now that they were out of the shuttle they began to combine.

Velvet allowed the combination even though she hated it. She could see everything that happened, feel it all and had no way of stopping anything. The Alpha-sons of the Imperium had no soul and most of the time she was left empty during the combination. She would do her job.

The Imperium soldiers along with the Omegas ran into battle. Velvet could watch as the group she was in ran headlong into battle. The soldiers opened fire hoping to inflict damage on the opposition before real combat occurred. Velvet felt power being channeled and could only watch as an arm was raised and with an open palm facing forward a beam of energy shot out towards the settlement.

The resulting explosion blew open a part of the rebel's perimeter. Before they could take advantage of it two Omegas came into view. Both were a grey color, and they opened fire back. One headed right towards her. She knew that they could dodge it, but her Alpha did not and she was forced to protect him from the blast. It knocked the breath out of her and she knew that she would have a bruise from it.

The groups exchanged fire for a few minutes. Velvet had to take the impact from a few more hits that her Alpha refused to dodge. She was beginning to wonder how much longer she would be able to withstand the attacks when the rebels suddenly retreated. The Omega she was part of rushed towards the entrance even though she thought it might be a trap. The Alpha would not hear of such nonsense.

Velvet was glad when she heard a voice over their intercom telling all groups to back off. The higher up commanders were cautious, this was new and they did not want to run the risk of being caught in a trap.

Several Mega-sons were sent into the rebel compound to see if there was a trap waiting for them. After several minutes of nothing happening it was declared safe and the battle over. The Mega-sons split back into two and the medics ran around looking at each Alpha-son and Armor-son to make sure they were ready for the next battle.

Velvet could hardly stand when she was herself again. The doctor came over to her and quickly checked her out. He noticed that she was in need of rest for a while. He gave his orders and with a glare at the Alpha ordered Velvet to the makeshift med lab.

"Its just a few briuses," the Alpha said to the doctor.

"In her condition she will fall down, if you want to survive the next battle I suggest you dodge some of the shots she took for you," he said with a glare of his own. He inwardly hated the Alpha-sons, they used the Armor-sons like tools not caring if they lived or died. They did not truly understand the nature of the Mega-sons.

"Whatever, just as long as she's ready for the next battle," the Alpha-son replied curtly and walked off.

The doctor motioned for two of his aides to come and help Velvet into a bed. She had several bruises on her body and he was not ready to rule out some internal damage as well. He wrote up his report on her with rest for at least three days, no less. The commander might fuss at him but would relent to him in this area.

He had counted that they had lost five Mega-sons and another two Armor-sons during the battle. He would report that back to the commander and wait for the next order. He went on his way to the next Armor-son and checked out his injuries.

Rachel made her way back to the regroup point before morphing out of her Omega form. She glanced at Ben and quickly checked him over before he could even say anything. It was something she always did. Her life depended on his well-being. If the Zeta was injured then their effectiveness would be diminished and it would endanger both of them.

"I'm fine Rach," Ben said telling her that he was alright. "You managed to dodge everything that came our way."

"How many did we lose," Rachel asked silently wishing that the number would be zero. Her heart sank and the news.

"We lost three, along with Jimmy," came the reply. Rachel nodded her head in acknowledgment at the loses. Three along with on Zeta, and while the loses were light they could not afford even one loss.

"Send my regards to Carol," Rachel said knowing that she would take Jimmy's death hard. The rumor had been that they were lovers. Rachel knew that they all would keep and eye on Carol until Carol was more herself.

Ben looked to be indeed fine, she thought that they had been hit once, but it looked to be a glancing blow. Now Rachel needed a way to get them out of there in one piece. She tried frantically to think of something that would give then an advantage. Their retreat had caught the Imperium troops off guard, but they would not fall for it again.

"Did the others get off the planet," Rachel asked hoping that they would be the only ones left and it would simplify things. She was told that they had and Rachel was glad part of her plan had worked.

As she thought about what to do an idea came to her, it would be risky and she would talk it over with everyone, and then let them decide. She ordered everyone around her and she began to outline her plan.

Velvet rested comfortably on the portable cot that had been provided in the makeshift med lab. She was tired from her recent activities but did not want to go to sleep. Usually if she did nightmares would prevent her from getting a good sleep. It was something she had gotten used to.

"Hey Velvet, we really took the fight to them today," Velvet heard another Zeta say to her. She turned her head and noticed that Red was next to her.

Velvet really did not want to talk with him. The others did not feel the same as she did. The Imperium had tried to train them that to serve and die in the line of duty was the ultimate experience that a Zeta could live for. She did not follow that idea as well as several of the doctors who were to look after the Zetas.

"Velvet, it's an honor to serve an Alpha, you should be happy that you have such a high level Alpha for your rating," Red said spewing out the typical Imperium propaganda. Velvet was sure that most of the Zetas believed it, but then again most did not have her upbringing.

"Of course you're right," Velvet said back with a smile hoping that it would be the end of this discussion. Without looking back she turned back around and to pretend that she was trying to sleep.

Velvet's mother had told her stories about a legendary Omega that had defeated a great evil long ago. The evil had spread its poison across the galaxy until it encountered the great Omega. Its power alone was more than a hundred normal Omegas, and her mother called it a Super Omega.

This Super Omega battled the evil of the galaxy until it was destroyed. She always told her that whenever there was a time of sever trouble the Super Omega would rise again and destroy the evil that was threatening the galaxy. At the moment she wondered if her mother was talking about the Imperium as the evil force. She would not deny that with what she had seen and been forced to do.

Velvet had the images of families begging for mercy and being destroyed for no reason. The images that haunted her even more were the ones of children being killed. It was the on that haunted her every time she closed her eyes. She doubted that she would ever be able to get rid of the memories that she had.

Velvet concentrated on the sound of her mother's voice. It had been the only thing that had kept the images at bay, and the only hope that she had. That somewhere there was a Super Omega that would stop them and her from killing others.

Lately however even her mother's voice had not been enough to keep the images at bay. Today was no exception as the images of boys and girls that she had seen being killed came back to haunt her asking her why she had done it.

An explosion suddenly tore through the compound and shouts began erupting all around and Velvet jumped up quicker than she had wanted. Her body still needed to heal and she felt the effects the moment she hit the ground as her whole body ached. Someone was attacking the compound as another explosion rocked the area.

Velvet's training was to run and help out, but lately she was not sure about her training. She stood there for a few seconds wondering what she would do, if anything.

"Hey, come on Velvet," Red said running out of the mad lab.

Velvet watched as the others also ran out of the room leaving it empty in a matter of seconds. Velvet glanced around and noticed that no one was around. There was an exit at the other side.

Go!

Velvet glanced around at hearing the voice but saw no one around. She thought that she was hearing things when she heard it again. This time she thought that it sounded like her mother's voice. She quickly thought about the situation and realized that she might never have a better time to leave than right now.

Velvet gathered up her courage and steeled herself for the ache she was about to put her body through and ran out the back door and out of the compound. She really was not sure where she was going but she figured that it had to be better than where she was.

Velvet did not look around at all when she ran out, and headed right toward the trees. She could feel the explosions around the compound as she ran but chose to ignore the sounds of her superiors yelling orders. She was heading towards freedom.

Without any direction in her running she quickly became lost, but she did not care. After a few minutes of running she no longer heard the sounds of battle and she came to a stop to listen for any sound that would indicate she was being followed, or if there was anyone around her.

Velvet closed her eyes in order to concentrate strictly on her hearing. She could hear the distant crackle of fires at the compound, and faint shouts from the soldiers of the Imperium. Then she heard it, off to her right there was someone running through the forest, but not for her.

Opening her eyes she made a decision to try and follow the noises. It could be the rebels, and she might just be able to correct some of her past mistakes, even if that meant death for her. She ran in the direction that she had heard the noise and stopped several times to regain the direction.

After several minutes of running leaving her out of breath and at the point of collapsing she saw a clearing where a ship was located. It was not big, but probably had a hyper drive on it. She could see people running around making last minute preparations for launch. She realized that the attack was a diversion to launch the ship, but they still had to get past the Imperium battleship.

Velvet thought about it for a few seconds. She could stay where she was and probably stay on this planet for the rest of her life, or go with the rebels in hope that they would get past the battleship. She made up her mind quickly and walked out of the forest towards the ship with her hands in the air.

"Halt," came a voice as she walked into the clearing and she came to a stop right away. Anyone that could see her could tell that she had been part of the Imperium army. She still had on their pants, but not her jacket for which she was glad, as it told everyone that she was a Zeta.

"Rachel, we have a breech," the man said yelling over to another person.

Rachel glanced over and noticed a small blonde haired woman standing with her hands on her head and Ben pointing a weapon at her. Rachel ordered the others to continue the preparations as the window for launching was short as she walked over to the woman.

Velvet watched as a tall dark haired woman with blue eyes walked over to where she was. She felt herself drawn to the blue eyes and at the moment she was not sure she could break eye contact if she had to.

"Are there anymore of you scum out there," Rachel asked the woman who's green eyes seemed to be staring right into her own eyes with a strange intensity that it made Rachel a bit uncomfortable.

Velvet had to snap herself out of the trance when the woman had spoken. Her voice sounded so warm even though it was directed harshly at her. She had to remember what the woman asked her.

"Ah, no," Velvet said after a quick mental slap. She still could not tear herself away from the woman.

Rachel thought about what to do for a second, and then decided that she could not allow this woman to remain here where they were. "Take her and put her in a cell," Rachel ordered and then went back to work leaving Ben to carry out the order.

Ben motioned Velvet towards the ship and directed her to the cells. She obeyed his orders and quickly found herself in the cell area, which was better than she had imagined. The cots had mattresses on them and the cells were not cold like on board an Imperium ship. As she walked inside the cell she found herself giving some information to the man who was referred to as Ben.

"Tell your captain that an Imperium battleship's weapons have a minimum range of fifty thousand clicks," Velvet said then clarified when Ben looked at her a bit clueless. "Within fifty thousand clicks its weapons cannot fire."

Ben acknowledged the prisoner's words but was not sure if he would say anything to Rachel about it. The woman might be setting a trap, but he would wait and see.

Rachel was the last one on board the ship and the door closed behind her as she made her way to the bridge. She could feel the ship beginning to vibrate as it began to lift off. The gravity buffers kicked in to lessen the vibration of the ship and now Rachel could hear the engines powering up to full strength.

Walking onto the bridge she watched as her crew went about their actions calmly. It made her proud that they acted so well under stress. She walked over to the hyper drive operator.

"It will take me a few minutes to calculate the course once we are in space," the man said. It was the risky part of the plan. They could be blown up during the time it took to calculate the jump points.

Rachel watched as they escaped from the planet's atmosphere and now they were within range of the Imperium battleship's range. As expected it opened fire on her ship. The crew was rocked as they were hit, but not in anything critical yet.

Ben walked onto the bridge just as they were hit again. The shields held for now but everyone knew that it would not last for long.

"How are the calculations coming," Rachel asked.

"Give me another minute or two," came the hurried reply as they were rocked again.

"Try getting within fifty thousand clicks Rachel," Ben said to Rachel. "Our prisoner said that the battleships have a minimum range of fifty thousand clicks."

Rachel thought about it then decided it could not hurt as they were rocked again. She ordered the ship within fifty thousand clicks of the battleship. She held her breath as they got within the range. There was one more hit then the firing stopped.

Rachel let out a breath but then realized that it could still be a trap. She did not think that they were within range of the tractor beam but she did not want to take any chances.

"Battleship moving to increase distance with us," navigation said.

"Helm, keep us within fifty thousand clicks. Rachel heard the reply and waited. Finally she heard that the calculations for a jump were complete. "Execute jump sequence."

Everyone could hear the jump engines powered up to a high pitched whine. The jump only took a couple of seconds before it was completed and they were now near a barren planet. Rachel wanted to head toward the fleet but had realized that if their prisoner had a homing beacon on her then this would be the best place to go.

"We wait here for two days, to make sure our guest doesn't have a homing beacon on her. Have jump coordinates to point b ready just in case the Imperium shows up," Rachel said then told her bridge crew that she was going to take a nap and suggested that the rest of the group try and get rest as well on a rotated schedule.

Rachel briefly thought about going to see the prisoner. She was curious as to why an Imperium soldier would want to surrender. As far as she had heard something like this had never happened before.

There was something else about the prisoner that intrigued Rachel. There was something in those green eyes that had held her attention. The more Rachel thought about it the more she realized that the woman did not have any fear of what would happen to her. It was almost as if she wanted to be killed.

'If she wants to be killed then I'll be more than happy to carry out that wish,' Rachel thought to herself as she arrived at her quarters. She glanced around her quarters. There was not much in her quarters, a bed one side and a small desk on another side. Sitting on the desk was one lonely picture.

The picture was of four people. A happy couple with their two children. One girl and one boy who also looked happy. Rachel picked up the picture and glanced at it for several minutes before sitting it back down. With a sigh she went on over to the bad and got some sleep. She had a feeling that things might only get worse in a bit.
