Colonel Jack 0'Niell watched as the next SG team prepared to go through the stargate. They were headed to a new planet, PQ1073. The rover that had been sent through had indicated that the atmosphere was like Earth.

The reason that they were sending a team in was because of the buildings that had been seen in the distance. It was obvious to anyone looking that there was intelligent life on the planet. What really intrigued the intelligence group was the buildings looked to be made out of some form of metal.

Jack listened as the familiar noises of the gate moving and the loudspeaker giving out the updates when the last chevron was locked and gate sprung to life. SG-10 checked their weapons and placed their sunglasses on and walked through the gate. After the last person of the four man team went through the gate shut down.

"Let's hope that they have better luck this time," the general said to Jack and then motioned him to follow. Jack wondered where they were going when he was joined by Teal'c.

"Where are we going?" Jack whispered to Teal'c when they passed the conference room.

"I have no idea 0'Niell," Teal'c replied in his normal stoic voice.

They walked a bit further down the hallway to where a larger room was. The general ushered them inside then followed inside. Inside the room was filled with a bunch of new recruits and Jack and Teal'c realized why there were there. They were to introduce the newbies to the stargate.

Jack gave General Hammond a glare. Jack did not like doing this type of stuff. Giving a talk to the new recruits was not something that Jack enjoyed doing. Scanning the room he noticed that several of the recruits looked to be young. It was something that he did not enjoy, being reminded that he was one of the older soldiers.

"Greeting ladies and gentlemen," the general said as he took center stage. "Let be the first to welcome your new command. From here on out everything you hear and see will be classified top secret. You will not be able to speak about it with anyone, sometimes even within the base itself. If any of you have a problem with that leave now," he stated and waited for a few seconds to see if anyone left.

"Good, welcome to stargate command people," the general said. "You have been chosen because of your abilities and are now part of an elite team here."

Jack scanned the crowd to see what type of new recruits there were as the general continued to talk. There were many faces in the room and he looked for the one who was paying attention the most. He found it in a small reddish-blonde young woman. Her green eyes sparkled with an interest that reminded him of Samantha.

He knew that these recruits were there to replace the loses that they would lose in their missions. He wondered what their reasons for joining such a group were, his was because he was suicidal. He returned his attention to the general.

"Your first mission will be with an existing team. I have with me the lists of which team you are assigned," Hammond said to the group. "This beside me is Colonel Jack O'Neill and Teal'c. They are part of SG-1. They are the most experienced team and you would do well to heed their advice, Jack."

Jack was not really pleased to be speaking to a large group. "Thanks general," he said looking at Hammond whose face did not change. "As General Hammond said we comprise part of SG-1, a team of four members. Each of you will be assigned a team consisting of four members. Teal'c is what is called a Jaffa."

The group looked a bit puzzled at that.

"I am not from this planet," Teal'c said clarifying Jack's statement.

"You will be traveling to distant worlds and meeting alien species. The best advice I can give you is listen to everything. There are times when things look to perfect, and they are using slave labor, and other times when things are just what they seem," Jack told the group. "The group you want to stay clear of is the Gau'uld, you will learn more about them later."

Jack and Teal'c fielded questions while the general went to the control room to gather the latest information. Jack then handed out the paper that had the names and what groups they were assigned to.

The group was then dismissed to find their quarters and get aquatinted with the base. Jack and Teal'c waited until everyone cleared out before leaving.

"I hate it when the general does that," Jack said.

He knows that if he was to ask you would not go, and its not the first time you've fallen for this," Teal'c said.

"Alright, I know," Jack said as they walked out of the room to find Sam.

Sydney Raktet sat there listening intently to the general. He had said his name was Hammond and the other two in the room were Colonel O'Neill and Teal'c. Teal'c was not from Earth, and she wondered if there were others as well.

She played with her reddish blonde hair as she waited for the paper to make its way to her. She was excited and could not wait to see what team she was on. The paper reached her and her heart sank at what she was labeled. She was a backup person. She would have to wait for someone to ask for her to join a mission.

Getting up out of the chair she walked out of the room but did not really want to go to her quarters just yet. She wondered around looking for different areas that she would have to know about. She found the med lab.

"Hello, is there anything I can do for you," A woman with brown hair said. She was a bit taller than Sydney.

"Ah, no, just looking around," Sydney replied.

"You're part of the new group," the woman said. "I'm Janet," she said extending her hand which Sydney shook.

"I'm Sydney," she replied.

"Janet there's something I want you to look at for me," a voice said before a figure appeared. A woman appeared with short blonde hair and Janet turned to look. "Oh sorry, I didn't know you had company," the woman said coming to a stop in front of them.

"This is Sydney, she's new Sam," Janet said looking at Sam.

"Pleasure to meet you, I'm Samantha Carter, Sam for short," Sam said then handed a paper to Janet. "What do you make of this?"

Janet looked at the paper for a few minutes while Sydney felt like an outsider. She was about to tell them bye when she caught what was on the paper.

"I'm not sure about it Sam," Janet said handing the paper back to Sam.

"Neither am I, but something is there taking stuff from SG-5 and we can't isolate it," Sam said.

"Excuse me," Sydney said in a small voice and both looked at her. "This spike here, I took a class where our professor talked about the possibility of life based on silicon, and this would be an indication of that type of life."

"Silicon," Sam said snapping her fingers. "That's it! It would explain why metal objects are disappearing. You're going to make a great addition Sydney."

Sydney blushed at the comment and then excused herself and went in search of her quarters.

Sam and Janet watched her walk out of the room. "She's attractive Janet," Sam said giving Janet's back a rub. Her friend's sexual orientation did not bother her, and more than once they had shared a bed. To Sam, Janet was a close friend.

"You better tell the general about the findings," Janet said with a smile. She knew that Sam liked Jack, but they had their times together and she had to admit, that Jack was a good person as well, if she went that way. Sam she knew was bi.

Sam left in search of the general, who she found in the conference room. In there was also Jack, Teal'c and Daniel.

"General, We've found out why there had been supply problem on PX-194," Sam said. "There is life there, but it's silicon, not carbon life."

"SG-5 has found no trace of any crystals," Hammond replied.

"It's obviously a new form of silicon sir," Sam replied.

"I'll let them know, in the mean time we have a problem. We have lost contact with SG-10 on PQ-1073," Hammond said. "I'd like SG-1 to go, take whoever you think is necessary to complete the mission and find out what happened, dismissed."

"Are there any clues," Daniel asked.

"There are none," Teal'c said having been in the control room when Hammond began to worry.

"Could it be a virus or something," Sam said.

"The atmosphere readings are normal, and nothing in the atmosphere indicates dangerous viruses," Daniel said.

"I'd like to bring SG-11 and 12 and the doctor with us," Jack said.

"Then let's move people," Hammond said as they all got up and walked out.

"Janet, we need you to come with us to PQ-1073, there may be some dangerous viruses or bacteria in the air," Sam said to the doctor.

"Another mission, let me get my bag," Janet said going over to change into her offworld uniform and grabbing her bag. "I looked over Sydney's record, she's very smart."

"What are you talking about," Sam said.

"Well, I could use an assistant there,"' Janet said.

"I'll talk with Jack," Sam said and left the room.

"Jack," Sam said a few minutes later in the armory.

"Hey Sam, is the doctor coming," Jack replied as he checked out his weapon.

"Yes, she also would like for Sydney Raktet to come with us as her assistant," Sam said.

"Isn't she one of the newbies," Jack said.

"Yes and she also pointed out what was going on PX-194," Sam replied.

"Go and tell her," Jack said.

"Yes sir," Sam said and left in search of the small reddish blonde woman.

Sydney had made it to her quarters, which she shared with several other woman. They were also new and were excitedly discussing their new team and their excitement. Sydney sat on her bed not really in the mood to join their joyous celebration. She had no team, and without a team she felt that she would not last long.

There was something that had drawn her to this place, something she needed. The thought of her leaving made her heart ache.

"Hey Sydney, what team were you assigned to," one of the taller girls said. "Oh that's right, you're an extra," she said with a laugh. The tall blonde was someone who Sydney had never liked. "I'll let you know what it's like off world," she said with another laugh.

More was about to be said when the door opened. Sam walked into the room and looked around quickly finding Sydney.

"Come on, suit up," Sam said looking at Sydney who was looking stunned. "Colonel O'Neill won't wait forever."

"Me," Sydney said in a bit of shock pointing at herself.

"Come on Sydney, you were requested," Sam said. "Report to the med lab when you are suited up, Janet will be waiting for you."

Sydney hopped up and quickly grabbed her gear and walked to the med lab. Janet watched the small blonde walk into the room and smiled to herself. There was something about Sydney that Janet could not grasp yet but it definitely radiated from her.

"Sydney," Janet said. "Glad you could make it. Here take this and let's get to the armory."

'Armory,' Sydney thought, she must be going off world. With that thought her heart rate picked up a bit.

They arrived at the armory where there were a few people. Sam was checking her weapon to make sure that it was in top working order. Janet walked over and picked up a small pistol, and handed one to Sydney.

Sydney checked out the weapon to make sure it could work then put in back in its holster and put it on. Sam watched impressed with the young woman. She knew how to handle herself that was for sure.

"Come on, the rest of the team is waiting for us," Sam said after they were ready. The last thing Sydney was handed was a pair of sunglasses.

They walked into the stargate room and Sydney watched impressed as the gate went about its normal course to activate a wormhole. The gate activated with a whoosh and Sydney felt her heart jump in her throat. She felt something calling to her when the gate activated and she stood there for a few seconds.

"You okay," Janet asked a bit concerned about Sydney's reaction to the gate and thought that the smaller woman was in awe with what was about to happen.

"Uh, yeah," Sydney said not sure if she could say what she had been feeling. It was something she would have to think about later on.

"Let's go," Jack said putting on his sunglasses. Sydney watched as everyone else did the same and she followed the group.

They walked up the ramp and disappeared through the gate. Janet walked with Sydney as they approached the gate. Sydney was not sure about what she had felt when the gate activated and put it down as nerves. She walked up and with a deep calming breath closed her eyes and walked through the gate.

A tall dark haired woman with piercing blue eyes sat on the throne. Her eyes had been drawn out the window now for the past little while and she had felt something. What it was she was not sure, but a small part of her, a part she had never listened to was now dancing around inside her with delight leaving her in a good mood that she quickly clamped down on.

"Empress I have news," a man said bowing deeply in front of a woman sitting on a thrown.

"Report," she replied her ice blue eyes drilling into the man.

"There is a report that more of the strangely dressed men and women have come through the disc. They are dressed like the last ones," the man said wondering what orders she would give.

"Monitor them closely. If there is an opportunity to kidnap one or two of them do so," she said with a bit of a smile on her face.

The man shivered at the smile. He knew that she could be cruel, but she was also fair. She had also kept the wretched Leech invaders from their planet. She had lead their troops against the Leeches, and then against their pyramid shaped space ships. Their ships had been no match for the defense grid that she had the people erected to defiant the planet. Now they also had ships of their own and would be able to challenge the invaders in open space if they ever came again.

The new people that came through the disc were not like the Leeches. Their weapons were different, a projectile type weapon, but there were a few of the Leech's weapons among them. Their clothing was also very different.

The new people wore clothing like theirs, without any noticeable metal. Some did have a type of armor on protecting their chests, but it was worn underneath the clothing. The four people that they had captured earlier had not provided any clear information about where they came from, and they claimed that they came in peace.

Now the Empress had given an order to capture more and they might be able to gather some more information about the new invaders. He went and relayed the information to the field commander and then they would wait.

Sydney had opened her eyes after stepping through the stargate expecting to find something different, but definitely not a forest like where she had grown up. In one way she was disappointed at what she saw.

"Not what you were expecting," Sam said as she noticed Sydney's eyes.

"No, I don't really know what I was expecting," she replied back.

"It's either this, or a desert, or some sort of barren wasteland," Daniel said from where he was.

SG-11 was busy setting up a camp while the rest were unpacking their supplies that had been brought along. SG-12 was establishing a perimeter of defense just in case while SG-1 searched the area. Janet walked up to Sydney and together they put up a boilab to scan the air for anything potential harmful.

Sydney helped put up the lab, but she could not help but look over to where the massive buildings were in the distance. Something was pulling her towards them and she just could not explain it.

"Sydney," Janet called seeing the young woman staring out at the buildings in the background.

"What, oh sorry," Sydney said with a shake of her head. She was a bit embarrassed at having been caught daydreaming.

"They are amazing," Janet replied.

"Yes they are," Sydney whispered then mentally shook herself and got back to work.

Jack and Teal'c had searched the surrounding area for any signs of a struggle. They did not see anything unusual in the area and were getting less concerned with something biological killing the former SG team than something had attacked the group.

Communications were working fine so no one suspected that distance or interference was the problem. Jack was looking at a small area for any signs of footprints. So far they had only found a little bit of evidence that there was someone else on the planet.

That also posed another problem for Jack. There was obviously intelligent life buy the structures in the background. Someone had to erect them, but were they friendly? Had SG-15 headed to the buildings, were they still there? Were they guests, or prisoners? All of these questions were going around all of the minds of the entire team.

"O'Neill, over here," Teal'c said and waited for a second while Jack walked over to where the Jaffa was standing.

"Whatcha got Teal'c," Jack asked hoping that it was something good.

"There has been someone here recently," Teal'c said kneeling down on the dirt and traced a footprint.

"How do you know that," Jack asked.

"Because O'Neill, it was not here earlier," Teal'c deadpanned.

"So someone has been checking us out," Jack said making sure that he understood completely before heading back to camp. Teal'c nodded an affirmative and they headed back to their camp to warn the others about their find.

"Listen up people," Jack said when they walked into the camp. Everyone stopped what they were doing and waited. "We've had visitors already, I don't know if they are hostile or not yet, but keep on guard just in case. One more thing, do not open fire unless fired upon I don't want us starting a war."

"Are you sure sir," Sam asked O'Neill who looked at Teal'c.

"Yes I am Major Carter," Teal'c said.

"Is there any idea as to how many we could be facing," the leader of SG-12 asked.

"There is no way to tell," Teal'c replied. "They hide themselves very well, and they are not Jaffa, or Gua'uld by the type of shoes they use."

"I don't know if that's a blessing or not," Daniel said.

The group went back to their work a bit more cautiously to their environment. They would probably have to wait for their visitors to make the first move.

"My Empress," the man said with a bow waiting for her to acknowledge him.

"What news do you have," she asked.

"The outsiders, they are aware of our presence," the man said wondering how this would be taken. He really did not want to tell her, but it was his duty.

"Of course they are, they knew that there is a possibility of life here by the buildings, only a fool would not know that," she replied a bit disgusted with the man in front of her.

The man almost fell over when he heard her words. He never knew what type of mood she might be in. Today it appeared that she was in a more gracious mood than she had been in the past couple of mornings.

"Tell the commander to take his time, but I want them captured in the next couple of days," she said to him.

"Yes Empress," the man said with another bow before leaving the room.

The Empress sat on the thrown looking out the window to where the disc was. The dreaded Leeches had come form there and tried to enslave her people. Now there was a new threat, and she wanted all the information she could get. She had a feeling that this battle would be unlike anything she had ever encountered before.

Sydney placed the acid along with a couple of boiling chips in the beaker and swirled it around. She would be doing this for about ten minutes as they did not have a centrifuge with them. After that she would place it on a burner and set up a reflux system and let it heat for five hours.

Sydney had forgotten how boring chemistry could be at times. She remembered her labs in college where many times most of the period would be wasted with this type of experiment. Several times it would not work because the chemicals they were using were contaminated ruining their experiments.

The only thing different this time was the chemicals were pure and fresh and the outcome was not known yet. They had an idea of what they would like, but they would have to wait to see.

She wondered to the edge of the camp where a small lake was. She had been told that it was safe, but to be careful of wildlife in the area or in the lake. She took the warning for what it was and was careful around the lake, but she could still enjoy its beauty.

There was a stillness to the lake that Sydney found calming for some strange reason. The color of the lake was also a deep blue, something she had only seen in during her vacation to Alaska several years ago. She had discovered that it was the color that calmed her more than anything else. She had first seen it when she was in Glacier Bay in Alaska, and she had the picture as her wallpaper on her computer at home.

She had not realized that she was so far away from the campsite when she turned around. She had walked about halfway around to the other side of the lake. Deciding that she had better get back she turned around and began her trek back.

Looking at her watch she realized that she would still have two hours to burn before her experiment would need attention. She was so preoccupied that she never heard the approach of footsteps, but she did feel the sharp pain as a dart hit her in the neck. The drug on the tip worked quickly and she fell unconscious in seconds.

Two men quickly picked up her limp body and returned to the underbrush barely leaving any trace of what happened.
